I've been trying to download my ESO for months on my 40GB/month college internet, and tonight I finally got the last 20GB to download the last 15/59GB. I come back, see that instead of being complete, all my 20GB went to COMPLETELY deleting the files it already had downloaded and starting over. I fear that once I have enough data again in months, the same will happen again. So while the game seems cool, I can't give it another chance because it did everything to prevent me from playing it :(

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that! As far as I understand the game has to be downloaded pretty much at one go (you can pause the download for a time being, yes, but I think it resets the process if you shut your computer?), and since the game is huge it’s going to take forever to do so. Last time I installed it to my new computer it took me around 8 hours and I still had to run Repair before I could get into the game. I don’t know how to help with this, really, other than trying to download and install the game somewhere with less data restrictions. That’s a seriously sucky situation. :(

im tired and theres many more people who have gone into greater detail about this than i have but ill keep it short (and im not proofreading it b/c fuck it well do it live).

drag itself doesnt have to be transphobic, as seen in our queer forebears who used drag as methods of parodying and critiquing gender (but thats an argument for another time).

rupauls drag race (and thereby rupaul) has shown itself time and time again to be a transphobic garbage fire. some terms constantly used on the show are tr*nny, lady boy, and she-male. furthermore, as if trying to prove my point for me, rupaul had a challenge called “female or she-male” (s6e4, episode 69 overall) where the whole point was to clock people, or in the shows words ”””””biological woman””””” (”””””female”””””) or a ”””””psychological woman””””” (”””””shemale”””””), which is obviously transphobic, in and of itself. as rupauls show was a major force in widening drags exposure from lgbt culture to the mainstream, this is what the public is going to see. at the end of the day, most of the contestants in rupauls show tend to be guys (there are exceptions with trans drag queens, etc). people outside the lgbt community (people who dont have experience with any sort of queer people, or only have vague conceptions of the l and g parts) see these self-identifying men dressing as “women” and conflate these drag queens with trans women (the reverse, drag kings and trans men, also exist, but thats not the focus of this), which only serves to reinforce the “tr*p” stereotype that plagues the trans community. 

at the end of the day, rupaul might have understood the lgbt community in the early 90s, but absolutely does not understand the lgbt community today. i doubt they have ever understood the trans community and the challenges they face. sure, rupaul, you can claim that tr*nny amongst drag queens is like jay z getting offended by kanye saying the n word (link), but while you sit up in your shining castle that your money and fame have bought you, trans people in the real world are forced to endure the degradation of the slurs you so flippantly use and ingrain into your audiences brains and the very real threat of violence against themselves for just trying to exist (or the very real actual violence) that your show helps to stir up, rupaul.

Asks like this make me not want to comment anywhere at all out of fear of a wrathful writer thinking it will never be good enough

I was sort of worried that might happen when I posted the ask. But it’s part of the discussion, and it’s a valid point to consider. What one writer loves another will be disappointed by. 

I don’t really know what to suggest readers do, but the original anon wanted something more specific? Perhaps instead of saying “this was cute!” something like “this plot was cute!” or “your characters are so cute together”? Original anon, would that be any better? Is there some other response that would have made you feel more appreciated?

When it comes to commenting on fics, yes we want to please our writers, but we can only do what we can do. Take heart. You’re definitely giving someone else a thrill :)

Oh, I wasn’t aware I wasn’t the only complainer. What were the other complaints? I’ll try out that other option!

mostly that the $9 a month for important features is ridiculous lmao also I might be the only one on this but I hate how it looks everything is big af for me and clunky and I couldn’t find a way to change it at all.

worldanvil has a premium too but all the world building features themselves are available for free. It’s 3$ for things like private worlds, 10gb image space, co authoring ect. 

My issue with it is that I can’t set custom fields, or I haven’t figured out how to if its an option. It’s probably not a big deal for most characters but I have so many concepts that just don’t fit into the templates neatly. But I haven’t messed around with it enough to figure out how much I can fuck with the html.
