Of all the princesses the world over, Princess Elizabeth was the most adored; Meg had not had the pleasure of meeting all the princesses in the world, of course, but she was confident that her assertion was true. The king's sister drew attention and adoration from all in her presence, something that Meg was also certain would have been the case even if she had not one drop of royal blood. Today in particular, she seemed to shine brighter than the sun itself, soft auburn tresses flowing loose down her back, the gold of her gown nearly sparkling in the early evening light. Meg stood a few paces behind the princess as courtiers rushed to greet her, pouring compliments upon her as many were wont to do.
Once the greetings were made and the crowd dispersed, Meg fell into step beside Elizabeth, gently looping her arm through her friend's. "One could not have dreamt a more beautiful evening," she declared with a sigh, a smile upon her lips. "The king spoils us with such things. Though I daresay I might have thought the guest of honor to be you, sweet Bess, with such a welcome."
