My daughter wants to be sofia for halloween, where did you get this outfit? All the ones I find are itchy.
I’m super excited to hear your daughter wants to be Princess Sofia for Halloween. That’s an awesome choice.
However, I have not personally cosplayed as Sofia nor do I own any Sofia related outfits at this point in time. The other day, I reblogged a photoset from user elkaydee, who cosplayed as Princess Sofia at the D23 Expo. She’s a very popular and talented outfit maker and cosplayer, I suspect she made her outfit by hand from scratch. So I’m afraid you’d have to message her directly if you wanted more information about how she created it, where she obtained materials, or any other advice.
Sorry I can’t be of any more help to you on this one. I wish you and your daughter luck in your outfit quest. And thank you for the ask.
Going to D23? Want to be on the blog?
Well in that case, look for my good friend elkaydee! She has offered to take pictures of people she sees and if they have a tumblr, take down their url so they can be contacted about their picture later.
She'll be dressed as Sofia either in her princess dress
or her peasant dress:
To get a better idea of what she looks like and to see WIP photos of her dress, be sure to take a look at her facebook page. She will also have a Power Rangers backpack. Once she posts a picture of herself in the cosplay, I'll update this post with a picture of her.
So if you see her, be sure to stop by and say hello! If you're in cosplay, she'll likely take your photo to be put on disneycosplayftw!
Will you be there?

Did you make your rapunzel dress? If so, do you do commissions?
The one in that particular picture, I did not make. I bought it from Mom2RTK on Etsy. It’s beautifully made. I’ve made other Rapunzel dresses, but back when I was doing princess parties, I was doing Rapunzel parties non-stop and I needed a second dress. I simply didn’t have the time to make another, hence why I bought this one.
Now that I have a little more experience with grommets, I’d probably not mind tackling another one. I don’t take commissions very often because of my own busy schedule and the amount of pain sewing causes me (4 bulging disks in my neck from a car accident makes it tough to sew for more than an hour or two at a time). So I really recommend buying from her if that’s the look you want. Another fantastic person to commission for Disney princess costumes, especially Rapunzel or Merida, is Elkaydee Threads.
Hey! I noticed you make lace backs for your costumes. How exactly do you make the loops and well the entire back? I've only used grommets and I was asked for the loop kind of lace back for a commission and I have an idea how but I wanted to ask you to be sure :)
I hope you don’t mind me publishing this for anyone else who’s curious…
I basically line it with a strip of light interfacing, pin the loops so they’re (somewhat) even and then sew.
For busy fabric, I’m lazy so I don’t mind the stitching showing.
You can see the interfacing in this pic for my Cadence costume. For lighter fabrics, I use ribbon or another strip of fabric to cover all the icky and crazy stitching holding the loops in place.
Annnnnd there you go! This is definitely not the nicest way to do it. But I’m lazy, and I hate zippers, and I’m not huge on grommets, so this is my half-assed solution!
