Oth is not exceptional for its annoying obsession with 2.5 kids and a white picket fence for everyone (which is mostly straight white couples, of course). That’s typical for American shows. But it is exceptional (among the shows I watched at least) for trying to get their characters there before they turn 22 or, preferably, before they turn 18. Naley had super romanticized portrayal of teen marriage and teen pregnancy, Jeyton played house and almost got teen married, Brucas dreamed of 2.5 kids and a white picket fence, Leyton broke up because she wouldn’t marry him at 19 (and the narrative vilified her, just like it vilified Haley for the tour back in s2) and then in s6 she decides to carry out super risky pregnancy because abortion is evil, Brulian were obsessed with children (and biological children at that, they couldn’t even let them adopt), etc. All characters and relationships were affected by the show’s underlying “it’s important to be rich and famous, but it’s more important to be straight married with biological children” philosophy. (The show’s take on work and non-relationship related passions was imo as shallow and annoying as their take on family, but that’s another story.)
