For as much as he loved his camper home in the countryside, Jason felt like he spent just as much time in downtown Merrock, whether it be through working at the fire station, grabbing something to drink at the sports bar, finding a new favorite dinner at Mack's... taking a walk down one of the crowded streets, spying a familiar face leaving the nearby Inne. "Ella," he called out, offering her a quick, lopsided smile as he picked up his pace a bit to catch up to where she was. "Fancy seeing you here."

Ella’s kindness was not limited to people, she had learned from her mother to be kind to all sorts of creatures, dogs were certainly included. She wondered if the owner of the Dalmation would be upset if she would offer the dog a bit of food. She chuckled as she rubbed the Dalmation’s head. “My what a cutie you are.” Perhaps she had simply needed to shower someone with her affection. 

“It’s no problem.” She spoke softly to the owner. “I was struggling due to some blisters.” She got used to it considering the hard labour she had to go through on a daily basis. “This one really knew how to cheer me up.”

           it was surreal to be back on the grounds of camp half-blood, and there was a moment as he and marcy exited the labyrinth where he had thought that the barrier around the camp wouldn’t let him through. not that alabaster had enough courage to actually go to the camp. they were still only by the entrance in the forest, by zeus’ fist. his notes from before the war had still been hidden behind a couple of stones, and when he looked at his lopsided handwriting that his fourteen-year-old self had written, it almost felt like time hadn’t passed.

alabaster shook his head, his hair falling into his eyes. “no, no. you’re doing fine. you just have to---think less about it.” for alabaster, magic was less about spells and charms and more about intent; latin and runes were just one possible conduit out of many to take. like marcellina, he didn’t have the chance to get taught by someone who knew how to practice magic, and had only taught himself. teaching her felt like a release, like an injustice set right. “you’re doing well, really,” he insisted at her disbelieving look. “look, i was horrible when i first started.”

Someday

She was beginning to feel the weight of summer. Summer meant no classes, it meant working at the magic laundry and working on the household. The Fontaine mansion wasn't built for one person to do all the work yet that was exactly how the household was arranged. And all of it was put on Ella Fontaine who, if her father had not remarried would be the master of the mansion.

After her shift at the magical laundry, she barely could stand on her feet. Blisters prevented her from moving quickly and she barely could bite back her tears.

“Someday, I will find my happiness.” She whispered to herself as a weak attempt to cheer herself up, she found herself sitting down on the pavement removing a shoe to see the damage on her feet. It was worse than she imagined. And she sighed. “When will kindness repay me, mother?” She whispered to herself, surprised to see a butterfly landing before her. She decided to dry her tears and put back her shoes but got started to see she no longer was alone.

“Oh, I apologize.” She kindly smiled before offering the other a bow.

For every book he had published since he had known Mina, she had always been one of the four people he sent out bound manuscripts too, just after it had gotten final approval from his editor and had been sent to get published. The only other three were his mother, twin sister and Hannah, who had been the first person to ever read his first novel. With the five manuscripts just in from his publishing house, one on his shelf, one dropped off to each of the other women in his life, the last one he had left was for Mina.

Standing outside her apartment door, Alex took a deep breath as he knocked on the wood, clearing his throat as he waited in the hall for the door to open. As it did however, he didn’t recognise the girl on the threshold. “Uh, hi, I’m looking for Mina? Have I got the right apartment?”
