Ella M. - Take Yourself Home
The latest track from Los Angeles-based artist Ella M., the Reading, UK-transplant invites you to listen to her latest single “Take Yourself Home”. A fun and upbeat track whose energy radiates from Ella’s glowing vocals, “Take Yourself Home” hides its latent emotion. Flowing through the bassy clunk of gooey synth shapes and her sugar-sweet falsetto, Ella M.’s latest track in fact captures Ella M.’s internalized struggles as an artist. With its tongue-in-cheek video capturing the Englishwoman as the odd one out, Ella M explained us what this all means in the context of her video single for “Take Yourself Home”:
“’Take Yourself Home’ is essentially an internal dialog between myself and my anxiety towards success. The busy nature of the track itself sheds light on the internal struggle I face while navigating my musical career. Through writing this song, I came to the realization that I don’t actually need the troubled thoughts to push myself to succeed and I forced myself to tell the negative voice in my head to ‘Take Yourself Home’. While I still struggle with suffocating thoughts towards my musical success, this song definitely put me in the right direction.
I wanted to give a visual representation of the inner circle that I came across when I first moved to LA. I think I mystified how tight and insular they were and that's why I chose to place this narrative in a playground setting to poke fun at their seriousness. I finally became comfortable and confident here once I found my own group (represented by the girls in blue) of people who fit my personality. Shooting this video was one of my favorite days so far this year as the cast and crew were actually that very group I mentioned, a bunch of strong, multi talented, females!"
The upbeat energy of Ella M’s latest track is contrasted by the down-low, grooves of its timeless, pop R&B sound on “Myself”:
