Um... Hello?

Elle poked her head through the door hesitantly. It had been such a long time since she had been here, the girl wasn't entirely sure what to expect.

"Um... hello?" She asked, a slight hitch in her voice. "Is anyone here?" Rollo meowed his support, butting against her ankles reassuringly.

"I know it's been a while," the girl said, "But I'm back!"

“If you tell me, it’ll go away. That’s what Ludger always told me and it’s never failed me.”

The woman looked at Elle. Should she even tell her about this? It mainly had to do with the regret she felt. She sighed heavily as she looked at the girl with her cat. 

“Only if you’re prepared for me to go long winded. I guess it couldn’t hurt.” Not like they were nightmares of what exodus did to her since they didn’t do much of anything but throw her into the streets of Trigleph when they found she wasn’t going to talk anyway.

“The dream starts, with me back in my old home. There was a man with snow white hair, demanding I come with him. He wanted to take me to Gaius, to protect me. I was scared with all the commotion going on. It was just an argument at first. But, this is where it twisted. As we kept arguing, he was suddenly impaled with a sword. I screamed and tried to use my healing artes to help patch up his wound. It wasn’t working. A voice told me over and over that had I come with him, I would’ve prevented his death. He wouldn’t have died, he would’ve stayed behind...” She shook her head. The way things played out in her head was far different from what actually happened. 

“I don’t know why I feel such guilt. He died inbetween dimensions, by his own hand. It was like my mind is trying to pin the blame on Gaius but...I know that isn’t true but, I wonder if I could’ve prevented him from doing that simply by coming with him...”

Dear Chal,

I never did have the chance to thank you for everything.

It’s a long-overdue sentiment, but I always thought I’d have time to say this later. You’ve been with me for so long that I’ve simply never envisioned a future without you– even now, there’s a small, selfish part of me that wishes I’d been able to keep you, no matter what the swordians were meant to do. I didn’t want to give you up, even at the cost of the entire world. 

…But I’ve made enough selfish choices already, and I think you were happy with the way things turned out. 

There are still so many things I want to say to you. But most of all, I want to take back what I said when I lashed out at you in anger– when I said that I had always been alone. Those words hurt you, and they weren’t true. I know now that I had never been fighting alone, because you were always by my side. 

I know this letter will never reach you. But if you are anywhere under this vast sky, please know that I’ll always hold you in my heart.

To The Future

You would think that with the project finished and released to the public, things would have become easier, but Jude wasn’t so fortunate. Sure, the pressure was off and the balance of the world was slowly falling back in place... But that didn’t mean his work was over, at this rate it would probably be for the rest of his life-- not that he had a problem with that. He signed himself up for this and he was determined to see it all through to the end, he’d have it no other way.

Though it was getting harder for him to create the free time for his friends and family. The people never stopped, he rarely got any peace-- he really was starting to miss how it all was back then. But if there was a will, there was a way. If Jude really wanted something to happen? He’d find a way to do it. Even with how important his job was, the fame that came with his success, he wouldn’t let it stand in the way of the people most important to him.

No gatherings to attend to. No meetings of sponsors... He was free. And it couldn’t have been a more perfect, as he had received a message earlier about meeting with a friend he had not had the chance to see in a while. Something he truly felt bad for, but he couldn’t fully help it. Things would calm down eventually, right? They had to. It wouldn’t be like this forever. So gathering his things, he made his way to the meeting spot, taking the less scenic routes so he could avoid anyone that might recognize him and get in the way of this.

“Ah.. Finally.” a little out of breath as he stopped just a few meters behind her. “I hope I wasn’t late? You have no idea how hard it is move around lately without being asked twenty questions...” he did not like being popular at all. But upon straightening himself up, a smile returned to his face. “It’s been some time. I hope you’ve been taking good care of yourself, Elle.”

The first thing he felt was a cold brisk air, and the seeping of water lashing against his legs. The next was a rocky pavement digging into his cheek. Ludger’s eyes opened, but it was slowly. He found his body, half emerged in the sea banks of Marksburg, his body incredibly weak. 

Though slowly, very slowly - he could feel an odd sensation. Almost as the energy from the air around him was soaking into his skin. And soon enough he had barely enough strength to drag his lower half out of the water. The younger Kresnik curled into himself, barely finding it within him to have committed the simple actions he had preformed, pulling his whole body onto the land. Standing was out of the question.

He needed help. The last thing he remembered was entering Canaan. Everything past that was a blur. Well - that didn’t matter now. Elle.... Where was Elle!? 

He let out a heavy breath, fighting to keep his vision clear. He had to find the strength to move. he had to find her before it was too late.

Today was a special day for a certain little someone, and Alvin was surprised Elle had slept as long as she had. No complaints on his part, though. It had given him a chance to lever some plans into action.

He shooed Rollo into her room, and the cat jumped onto her bed, nosing at her to wake up. When she did finally look at him, she’d find that he was wearing a splendid new collar with a note tightly wrapped around it. Unfolded, it read, in Alvin’s bold script, ‘Every adventure starts with getting dressed in the morning.’

Elle looked up at Presa with wide, blue eyes. "Your hair... how long does it take you to do your hair in the morning? How do you get it to stay all day?" It was hard enough for the girl to make sure her pigtails didn't get messy, much less an elaborate due like Presa.

The little girl certainly didn’t downplay her staring, but... Presa didn’t mind.

Resting on her good knee, she put herself at eye level with Elle, a slightly mischievous tug at her smile. “Believe it or not, I can get my hair ready in less time than some of the men I know--knew.” As if the words left a sour taste in her mouth, Presa’s lips pursed briefly before being quickly replaced by a smile as soft as her lowered voice. “The secret,” and pause for dramatic effect, “is using a weak ice arte to hold the hair in place.” 

Tilting her head at the young girl’s awed expression, Presa asked, “Would you like help doing your hair sometime?”
