A review and 55 photos of Seth Sentry playing The Metro Theatre on Friday May 24.
Seth Sentry at the Metro Theatre 24/5/13
It was a night of A-class Australian Hip Hop as support act Ellesquire took to the stage; initially he seemed kind of nervous and it was difficult to take him seriously especially with his tune ‘Cricket’ which he claimed was written after he saw a cricket in his house on a night drinking scotch.
The audience’s attention was grabbed when a man in a long black suit came on with a sign stating he was a 'fuckin ninja’ little did we know he would be spinning the beats whilst Tuka arrived. The Thundamentals singer managed to get the audience singing along to his songs and seemed quite comfortable with his surroundings. He also did an impressive cover of Chet Faker’s ‘Im Into you’ struggling to sing his own rendition of the chorus over the audience who screamed the original lyrics of the song.
Hype boomed as DJ Sizzle bounced onto the stage followed by the main man of the night Seth Sentry who jumped straight into his hit song ‘Float away’ You could tell the gig was slightly rehearsed but this showed Sentry as an entertainer not just an MC. Sizzle added vocal melodies at just the right moments of each song, it was hard to tell whether he was really working on the decks though as his arms waved around in the air for 90% of the set.
Sentry really got in there with the crowd; at one moment he sat amongst the calmly seated audience and sang the beginning of ‘’Room for Rent’’ During the last part of the show all of the MC’s free styled about objects the audience threw onto the stage, Sentry closed the show with his hit single ‘’Dear Science’’ proving why he is being talked about so much in the Australian Hip Hop scene.
