Ever since Shinsou joined class A, it had been harder and harder to see him. Suddenly, the general class student who had a bruised pride as you healed his bruises became just as popular as the big three. And it all happened suddenly, and as a support nurse you thought you would see him more because of his increased training. More workouts and training meant a higher chance of injuries right?
As it turns out, the older students were under Recovery Girl and the first years were under your care. It took you until the sports festival to realize that you wouldn’t be running into him in a work capacity. You also weren’t in the same dorm and if you did want to find him outside of class, he was either with his classmates or training with Aizawa.
During your third year school festival, you had a very brief conversation with him. Once again, you were stationed at the nurses stall with other students who had similar quirks to yours when he approached with his general studies friends. You had been fixing part of the display when his deep voice stirred you.
“So, what’s the game here?”
Your stomach had clenched and your kouhai’s began to giggle like idiots. 3-A student Shinsou Hitoshi was at the nurse stall with his friends. Is that a hint of a smile you see on his face? You cleared your throat and tried to keep it together. “Well, we have a fun trivia game where you have to be the first to dress All Might!” With your best announcer voice you went into your spiel. “We have a wheel here to spin for a question. If you answer the quirk related question first, you’re able to add one costume part to the doll. If your All Might is dressed first, then you win!”
Shinsou smirked with a chuckle. “And what’s the prize?”
At that point, a small crowd had gathered around the stall. The way he was staring, you could tell he remembered you from the first sports festival as he held your gaze. You felt the butterflies in your stomach going crazy but you did your best to keep yourself steady. “The prize is one of these stuffed mini cat nurses!”
Lilac pupils widened and his eyebrows lifted. Shinsou begun to look around and spotted his friend Tokoyami and challenged him. You had done your best to keep yourself calm as both guys had gotten very into it. In the end, Shinsou won and gladly took the mini stuffed cat. The crowd had dispersed and you began to reset for the next set of people. Shinsou still lingered. “H-hey,” he started, “thanks for the cat. I’ll remember this.” He placed his hand behind his neck with his ears colored red. “And I didn’t forget you from the sports festival. When you healed me back in first year!” He cleared his throat after he spoke loudly and you laughed awkwardly with him. He then handed you his phone.
“Give me your number so then I can thank you properly.”
That was months ago. Now, you’re celebrating your graduation with all the graduates. As you see him cross the stage, you’re able to really see how much he’s changed and grown. The amount of friends he has, how he’s grown into his hero name and abilities, and his confidence. Standing with your peers, you hope he sees the smile you’re giving him as he accepts his diploma. As the speeches end and the music ramps up, you’re then surrounded by your friends and now former classmates.
After being bombarded by his classmates and friends, Shinsou tried looking for you. He had caught your smile as he walked on the stage and that had his stomach clenching. He wanted to find you, the girl, no woman, that had invaded his thoughts ever since she healed and encouraged him at the sports festival. He had always looked for you in the halls, around the dorms, near the nurses office, but didn’t have much luck. So when he saw you at the festival he was over the moon. It was finally a chance to thank you and get to know you more. And he was brave enough to ask for your number.
Shinsou texts you a little after the ceremony ends.
Hitoshi 😸: hey, where are you?
You: I’m in the nurses office, just thinking
Hitoshi 😸: alright, see you soon
A knock on the nurses door doesnt startle you like it normally does. Holding his diploma and some flowers, Shinsou walks in. You turn around from pacing around the empty beds one last time. You sigh heavily. “So, are those flowers for me?” Your tone is teasing but Shinsou can’t help but be slightly flustered.
Now he’s stumbling over his words before you reassure him. “I’m kidding, I know you got those from your family and Eri.” You can see the tension release from his body as he walks toward you. You turn your body back toward the window and he joins you.
It’s easy to relax around him. Since the two of you have become better friends you’ve been talking and hanging out more. He’s become an anchor you didn’t know you needed. “Hah,” you sigh, “thinking about school. How this is the last time I’ll be in this room, moving to Tokyo for university, not being able to see everyone all the time. It’s a lot you know?”
You hear Shinsou exhale deeply as swivels and rests his elbows on the window sill. “Yeah, life is gonna be different. You know I’ll be doing part time university too right?” He waits for you to nod before proceeding. “I wanna work with organized crime,” he calmly states. “And as much as getting hands on experience is useful, I wanna get all the information possible. Tokoyami and I are gonna be underground heroes to disrupt organized crime.”
This light in his eyes shines brightly as he speaks about his future. It’s beautiful to see and it fills your heart with pride. You chuckle to yourself and nudge him. He playfully nudges you back and the two of you end up in a fit of giggles. The future is bright for the two of you and it’s just getting started; and you’re eager to see where it leads.
I had done my best not to let anyone let Shinsou know I was spending Christmas alone. Typically I would post about any solo endeavors, however I was oddly silent the closer Christmas got. It’s hard to keep things from my best friend and underground hero, but since he’s been honing his detective skills he figured me out. But he didn’t bring it up to me, assuming I didn’t want many people or anyone really knowing about it.
I had just come back from some solo groceries, luckily before the stores closed, and began to put on a favorite Christmas special when the door rang. Eerily confused, I cautiously approach the door and gasp aloud upon looking into the peep hole. “W-what are you doing here?” I ask him incredulously. “Shouldn’t you be with your own family and friends?”
Shinsou scoffs and shakes his head. His eyes search mine as he lifts a couple of bags. “I should be asking you the same thing. Why didn’t you tell me you’d be alone?” I can see the tension and worry in his frown lines and hunched shoulders. This is exactly what I didn’t want! I didn’t want him worrying over me when he already has so much to concern himself with-
“You don’t have to worry about me. I’m your best friend, why did you lie to me?”
I feel the tightness of my jaw muscles as my lip trembles. I can’t stop the barrage of tears as I’m met with my own emotions. Everything I had tried to keep up as a facade to the world was finally crumbling. My knees buckle from the weight of my pent up emotions. He rushes over to comfort me and helps me to stand. Shinsou ushers me inside, removing his shoes then swiftly placing the bags on the kitchen counter.
“I thought,” I finally muster, “I thought I could handle being on my own. My family has gone through so much loss lately and shifting dynamics that I…I couldn’t do it-I can’t! And I couldn’t burden you with this.”
Shinsou hugs me and holds me fully. I let my tears fall freely against his clothed shoulder. He has one hand on my waist and the other on the back of my head. I hear and feel his throat constrict as he sniffles above me. “Damnit,” he whispers. “Why would you hide this from me? Don’t you know I care about you deeply? I would never want you to be alone.” His voice cracks a bit. “Not ever.” His hold on me tightens and I hiccup into him with a nod.
Shinsou kisses the top of my head then my forehead. “I don’t care how cheesy this is, but you have no idea how much I love you and I never want you to be alone okay? You come to me.”
All I can do is nod as my stomach churns and twists. I want to say the same thing back, however I’m sure he knows I reciprocate what he’s confessed to me.
