The feeling of the wind rushing in off the Southern Ocean and onto my face as I walk over the crest to the beach in Port Fairy.

Cleaning the house while the windows are open and the sunlight is streaming in

Going to the airport

Climbing into bed and knowing that I don't have an alarm set for the morning

Excited puppies

Cooking meat in a cast iron pot for hours and hours

Napping in the perfect silence and sunshine on the porch in Lakes Entrance

Fathead tails grilled over a tea tree fire

Eating spätzle and döner and currywurst and Spaghetti-Eis (independently of one another, of course)

When my Dad dances

My Mama's brain and her grace

The part of the dinner party when everyone's finished eating but the plates are left on the table and you're on your third glass of red wine and the conversation is easy 

Christmas in our little house

The open road, Graceland and no passengers

Jelly legs after a gym class

I've heard a few songs and was not at all inspired to get the album. Is this what the kids are listening to these days...?

Such a brilliant film, but you'll cry!!! I watched it in my last few days in America and it sure did hit home- not because I'd found myself in a relationship, but just the notion of friendship and love and being so far away from places you learn to call home.

it's okay - i'm a sucker for a self-inflicted movie-based cry! i've got a feeling it's going to bring back a lot of feelings and memories that i haven't even touched on since i've been back.

i wasn't in a relationship while i was there but i found the most wonderful liverpudlian gentleman and it was painful to agree that it would just be a holiday love and leave it at that once i left.

and aside from love, like you said.. all those comforts you find when you're thousands away from the only place you thought was home. i had such an intense feeling of home as soon as i stepped foot in england and now i'm homesick for somewhere i spent at maximum three weeks in.

the brain (and the heart!) are funny things.
