abt arya's list, and what u said abt it being for justice, it made me think abt how for a long time i was confused as to why the mountain was on it, bc as far as i can remember (i haven't read the book in awhile) he didn't kill any of her ppl or hurt her personally? but it became more clear to me, he was just such a monster, that arya who is such a righteous character, wants him punished enough that he's on her list. so her list, its not just abt wrongs done to her its what injustices she's seen

or maybe im completely wrong! lol i hope im not too far off, its just that i know that ppl like cersei and joffrey and meryn trant, all did something to her or her family, but the mountain she saw torture other ppl, and it seems to me she was so horrified she takes it onto herself to seek justice for his crimes??? ur so good with arya meta i dont want to come across as too simple

so her list, its not just abt wrongs done to her its what injustices she's seen. 

you’re not wrong--you’re bang on the nose.  that’s exactly what it is, and it’s part of why it being construed as vengeance bugs me so much because that doesn’t fit for the vast majority of the people on her list, specifically the mountain and his men.  it’s about miscarriages of justice that she’s seen and how they’ve gone completely unpunished.  every single person on that list is not someone who has necessarily wronged her personally (though obviously there are those who have), it’s people who have done wrong by what should be the law.

i say what should be: westeros has no rule of law, and no real good justice system.  so when arya sees what “should be,” it’s based entirely on what she perceives to be right and how her family’s moral compass has shaped her.  she’s a character who knows very much that life isn’t fair (an important lesson from her first chapter) but there’s a difference between the societal “life’s not fair” and the “we’re actively going to harm people because no one’s going to give us shit about it,” that’s a major thing for her.

the mountain and his men are on that list because they torture people.  part of the reason she has jaqen kill chiswyck off her list is because he’s bragging about the gang-rape of a girl only a little older than arya herself.   her going to jaqen is about her own fear (same for weese) because these men have power over her in a way that’s terrifying for a ten-year-old; they’re on her list to begin with because she sees what they do to people and knows that no one in charge of them is going to do anything about it because the people in charge of them set them loose to do exactly what they’re doing.

hey! i agree with ur post abt ned and lyanna's secret, i always thought that ned never told catelyn bc while we see them as this super strong couple who share everything, during roberts rebellion they just met when they were married. catelyn never even met lyanna, so for ned i don't think he could trust her, and as yrs past and their love grew it became too late, would look weird if he told her and she suddenly started acting kind towards her husbands bastard

one thing i did always wonder tho, is if while ofc he couldn't say jon was lyanna's son, if he could've past it off as brandon's? wasn't he known to be pretty wild? say he got some woman pregnant before he went off and got killed by the mad king. or maybe that would've been too hurtful to cat since that was her betrothed. also - do u think ned ever told benjen? bc he adored lyanna and im pretty sure he would've been able to tell

Other than the fact that the timing doesn’t work out, Ned is a DIY guy. He is willing to be the liar and willing to dishonor himself in that way, but he won’t let others lie and others be dishonored over what is supposed to be his burden. He won’t sully his brother’s name just because he’s dead.

Besides, it could be a potentially sticky situation for Ned to raise what is supposedly the original heir to Winterfell’s bastard. There would be some who would gladly take advantage of that situation to push Jon as the true heir over Robb, and it would probably make Cat hate him even more.

yes i was thinking the same. bc i don't know much abt sociopaths but elektras love for matt and her motivations just Scream emotions to me and i never rlly understood why she was being called that. elodie is so talented and she gives elektra such nuance that tbh would prob be easier for the writers if she didn't have, bc they so want to box her in as a one dimension seductress killer, and they can't pull it off with the way elodie portrays her.

all of that!!!! a huge aspect of her storyline has been coming to terms w her emotions and going against what she knows/what she’s been told to do because of them. and elodie does so well in spite of her writing and i love her to death for being the only one to treat my wife right

idk if they subtly addressed this and it went by my head, but did we ever get why elektra is the black sky/what that is/what that means?? esp since they refer to her as THE black sky, but in dd s1 there was that other kid? and if they didn't, it seems a bit late to explain it all in dd season3, since the main arc for it has passed (or it's good since it'll ensure elektra will be back since there's still unanswered questions....) ??

DEFENDERS SPOILERS, JUST A HEADS UP. 

They did not address it at all. Outside of calling her a weapon. Like there’s so much conflicting information about the black sky. and they address basically none of it. I’m not holding my breath on it being addressed in dds3, but I do think this means elektra has super powers now so that’s cool. (I mean she can punch luke and it knocks his head back, and kick down a door with a heavy dresser in front of it. and take a hit from a car and just get back up on her feet. And she survived that bomb blast. I’m sure on that.) 

Okay so here’s my theory based on some of what we know. The Black Sky is the Hand’s Immortal Weapon. (nobu calls her their “greatest living weapon” and who else gets called a great living weapon? danny.) And because we know from comic books that there are more immortal weapons than just Danny. (Seven in total, including Danny.) I get the sad sinking feeling we won’t GET the other seven in MCU bc marvel’s fucked up iron fist mythology SO BADLY in an effort to mish mash it with the Hand and the Chaste, but Elektra is supposed to v. clearly be Danny’s counter point. Whiiiich they did a shitty job juxtaposing save for like 2 minutes of monologuing. 

That being said the Hand was supposed to worship the Black Sky ?? Like I totally get that being a lie, but Nobu was ready to bow down and worship at her feet. (#relatable) And they were DESPERATE to get their hands on a black sky she was considered essential for them. But then the Hand seems to be very eh whatever about having elektra around. And even considers just killing her and basically uses her to hunt down and kill members of the chaste which seems like a waste of her time. 

Just another case of marvel and LOVING wasted potential.

u know what i rly wished for? to see how jess might have been a bit sympathetic to matt trying to get through to elektra, bc her 'brainwashing' and being used by the hand made me think that jess could have been reminded of kilgrave's mind control. she knows how it feels to be someone's weapon. i mean i know its not the same, but if matt had gone more into detail abt how elektra was not herself as she fought them, it would have been interesting to see jess maybe share some understanding

Ohhh, this is such an interesting thought! Honestly, I hadn’t looked at the scenario that way (mainly because Jess’ background story was more or less sidelined in favor of showcasing her dry, snarky humor instead) but you’re right, I can definitely see similar issues surrounding control, agency, having your abilities used against you, etc. I’m okay with the story not drawing that line though, only because: 1. there just wasn’t enough time, and I’d be totally disappointed if they brought it up and then just let it fall to the wayside b/c that’s pretty much what happened to a lot of other stuff :p, 2. Jess is still dealing with really heavy, dark shit post-Kilgrave and I wouldn’t blame her for not having enough distance to recognize some of the basic similarities. My ultimate wish is to see Elektra show up in other corners of the Netflix universe, and if she’s not strictly contained to the DD world, it would be interesting to see her play off of the other Defenders / possibly make some amends for trying to murder them and all that. That would be a good moment to have a conversation like this play out :).

well i feel like her feelings for her house are mixed up with her feelings of her birthright, of coming back to westoros for the throne. when it comes out in the show that jon has a better claim, i know she's going to want to marry him but to me i think it will be so that he doesn't topple HER claim, she will be happy for another targ, but she's the one who's fought for this, and she will feel threatened. he's not gonna care about it all, but i dont think she'll completely believe that -

- and thats whats going to lead to this whole 'targbowl' ppl are thinking of. in the books, i also feel she'll think that same, but then idk how it'll end up. dany's motives are rlly emotion driven, bc she has nothing else to her name and life then this pursuit, and this history thats landed her where she was in the free cities. she's going back for herself, and that comes from what happened to her family, which is what i meant by her honoring their house. but she's not so honor driven -

I actually didn’t even know there was a Targbowl theory (#Cleganebowl for life) but ughhh that’s a possibility too. I don’t really have many ideas on how the show would end (I mean, my ideal ruling-wise is the throne being useless but that..probably won’t happen) so it’s always cool hearing these different options. 

So this next part is a bit of a ramble so feel free to skip lmao but myself, I’ve always kind of assumed Jon and Dany would get together in canon (not something i’m a fan of, mind you, but given the book’s name, I figured) but how it would happen has always been a flip flop for me. Show wise I lean towards....romance. I don’t see a mutual romantic spark between them tbh but it seems to be what the show wants. But then book wise I still flip - sometimes I think it may be a romantic connection, but I lean towards not - GRRM makes it pretty clear that the incest based relationships aren’t seen as good in the GOT world, and even in families like the Starks that have had cousin marriages, we don’t see our main protagonists have an interest or particularly support incest marriages. So, if Jon/Dany have a marriage (as opposed to one of them dying or the title referring to purely Jon, etc.), I’ve personally felt like it either wouldn’t last or that it would be a platonic, purely political marriage. So, with that if Dany’s reasoning for marrying Jon is that she can just secure that she has the throne? Then I’m with it lmao
