Secrets Of The Silent Witch Episode 9 Review - More Losses Than Gains

It’s hard to watch this episode. I don’t mean that the episode is terrible, but that I just feel so bad for Monica. Casey is one of the few friends she developed a bond with and for her to betray her trust and the fact that her desire to have Casey get a lighter sentence only makes the incident be pushed onto Cyril, another person she trusts. In fact, Monica doesn’t even win in this situation at all. She lost more than she gained and that’s what makes this situation more tragic than anything. I’m glad that Monica didn’t retreat back to her reclusive nature and continued with attending school, doing her electives, and her mission.

I think that what helps her keep moving on is the fact that Lana is her friend. Lana genuinely likes Monica as a friend and that Monica even realizes the deeper aspects of friendship when she realizes that she doesn’t need to give anything back to Lana for her kindness. I just hope Lana isn’t also an assassin, or Monica would definitely have trust issues. Still, her newfound strength to keep going is also shown earlier in the episode where she actually talks to Louis without bumbling and stuttering every five seconds. Seriously—go back to the first episode and then look at this one! The difference in Monica’s speech pattern is noticeable!

There’s also a few mysteries about Felix presented in this episode. Felix is a fan of the Silent Witch and seems excited to know that she’s on a mission to protect him. The biggest mystery about Felix is the person that was shown in Elliot’s memories. Felix seemed to have been a timid, but kind child back in the day, but look at his eyes—they’re blue. Felix has green eyes. The servant boy with the blue-eyed Felix has green eyes… Could there be a case of a body double going on? On top of that, I do remember one of my readers commenting in a past episode about how the boy in Monica’s past—the one who snubbed her in her previous school due to her magic talent—could be Felix. At first, I thought it was a bit of a wild theory…but with this flashback, I think that it could be a possibility…

The green-eyed servant boy is also definitely someone to keep an eye as his voice actress, shown in the credits, is voiced by Maaya Uchida. What I know about anime is that if you’re voiced by a rather well-known voice actor or actress, you are of importance. So, I’m sticking with a theory that the servant boy is Felix’s body double or that he’s an illegitimate prince…

It’s just so nice seeing just how many people care about Monica compared to what she had in the past. Louis is a lot kinder to her despite his brash demeanor; Isabelle even wanted to comfort her despite her getting sick. Now, I’m curious about what the next few episodes have in store for Monica as it seems that the story is spiraling towards a Felix arc as a new character shows up in the post-credits with an interest towards him. And since she’s voiced by Mamiko Noto, she’s definitely someone to keep an eye on. Let me know your thoughts on this episode.

“Silent Witch” The Theme Songs, Second Promo

The official website for the television anime adaptation of Matsuri Isora's Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto (Secrets of the Silent Witch) light novel unveiled theme music and a second promotional film. The animation will debut on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11 on July 5 at 12:00 a.m., with Yomiuri TV and TV Aichi to follow.

Secrets Of The Silent Witch Episode 2 Review - From Witch To Squirrel

I bet you didn’t expect this fantasy magic anime about a witch to suddenly transition into a school life story, right? I sure didn’t, but I am still intrigued nonetheless. According to flashbacks, Monica has attended school before, so this is basically her second go around in an educational institute. She had a very bad time the first time and it seems to be the case in her second time as well. Will she get a better school life in the second round?

Regardless of her status as a peasant girl attending school at the same time as her mistress Isabelle, she is able to get a room all to herself, despite it being in the attic. I’m surprised that the school administrators are allowing this. Her first day in school is very awkward as she instantly becomes the school outcast due to her status as the frumpy transfer student. The previous outcast, nouveau riche girl Lana Colette tries to befriend her but Monica’s socially awkward ass is unable to thank her properly which frustrates her. Fortunately, Monica is able to forge a friendship with her when she asks her to fix her hair.

Previous flashbacks also indicate that while Monica grew up happily with her father who was a researcher who indulged in formulas and where Monica got her love of mathematics from, things changed when her father died and she was abused by the man who took her in, causing her to become so withdrawn. It even caused her to have bad memories of her time at mage school. I always wondered if her behavior was due to trauma and it seems to be the case. I think being abused by that man also had some bad effects on her as she seems to be scared of men more than women as she faints when she was under Felix, cowers at the sight of Elliot and is terrified at the idea of talking to human Nero. I also wonder if her light appetite is also a factor of trauma because she’d rather eat nuts like a little squirrel rather than eat cafeteria food.

Even though she’s super timid, what excites her is numbers. She’s a mathematician at heart. The only time she’s able to talk properly and articulate well is when she’s calculating something in her head. I’m amazed with how she’s able to know all of Felix’s measurements just by looking at him. I guess she’s the seventh strongest mage in the world for a reason. Given that the Student Council’s Treasurer got suspended, this will definitely be a clue that Monica is going to be guarding Felix by being appointed as the new Treasurer once she catches the assassin after the prince.

Because the story is taking place inside a school, it’s obvious that a lot of characters would be introduced to show how lively it is. It’s going to be a whirlwind of a ride to keep up, but it’s obvious that the ones introduced in this episode will be the most important ones. It also seems that the school teaches magic as Cyril uses ice magic to subdue Aaron O’Brien. I honestly wonder how Monica will fare in these magic classes…

Surprisingly, this anime’s cast is filled with a lot of all-stars and names I’ve heard of. Felix is voiced by Shogo Sakata, who is known for voicing Aki Hayakawa from Chainsaw Man and Anzai from Wind Breaker. Cyril is voiced by Yoshiki Nakajima who voices Yuta in The Summer Hikaru Died. Elliot is voiced by Ryohei Kimura who voiced Kise from Kuroko's Basketball and Bokuto from Haikyuu. Human Nero is voiced by Shunichi Toki who voices Hokusai from Paradox Live and Takamine from Honey Lemon Soda. I guess the names I’m not familiar with are Kanna Nakamura who voices Lana Colette and Miki Hase who voices Selma.

To be honest, I sort of want to see more of Isabelle. She’s so hilarious as she’s so passionate about her role as a villainess yet she is bummed out that she can’t spend quality time with her idol Monica. Why does she give off theater kid vibes?
