Elliot Root
A few songs that make me feel soft, in love, and like a bright, lazy Sunday morning;
House Key - Scott Helman: when you wake up in the middle of night, I won't complain if you turn on the light. Beside me, you'd be happy, you’ll see; Can I get your house key?
Hannah Hunt - Vampire Weekend: Our days were long our nights no longer. Count the seconds, watching hours. Though we live on the US dollar; you and me, we got our own sense of time.
Sunlight - Hozier: Each day, you'd rise with me; Know that I would gladly be the Icarus to your certainty; Oh, my sunlight, sunlight, sunlight
June, After Dark - Elliot Root: I will, wait for you, until the summer comes. At the park; In June after dark
Step - Vampire Weekend: The gloves are off, the wisdom teeth are out. What you on about? I feel it in my bones, I feel it in my bones. I'm stronger now, I'm ready for the house. Such a modest mouse. I can't do it alone, I can't do it alone
Chinese Restaurant - Scott Helman: You had your hoodie up, beer in a Styrofoam cup. I didn't have the guts to talk you up. Oh, I only saw you once, in a Chinese restaurant; I swear that we locked eyes under the fluorescent lights. I didn't have the guts to talk you up
8teen - Khalid: Because I'm eighteen, and I still live with my parents. Yeah they're not like yours; well yours are more understanding. I've never fell in love, I saved those feelings for you. So let's do all the stupid shit that young kids do
Aawake At Night - Half•Alive: Alone in a crowded room, my eyes will search for you. Abandoned by my company; I’ll search for what’s in front of me, and hope that I find something new.
Only For A Moment - Arkells: If only for a moment, tonight you're not looking over your shoulder. If only for a moment, tonight. I dipped you low and we both fell over. At karaoke we were trading each verse; you wore my jacket and I carried your purse. For a moment, tonight. Only for a moment, yeah we could feel alright
Electric Love - Børns: And every night my mind is running around her. Thunder's getting louder and louder. Baby, you're like lightning in a bottle, I can't let you go now that I got it. And all I need is to be struck by your electric love
Movement - Hozier: I still watch you when you're groovin'; As if through water from the bottom of a pool. You're movin' without movin'. And when you move, I'm moved
June, After Dark // Elliot Root
Though Nashville group Elliot Root has a debut full length scheduled for release this fall, new song Stay is our first encounter with the band. What struck me immediately when I waded into this soulful piano ballad was its vocals, which are sooty and sultry, plush and pilose. Stay is a gorgeously affecting, sophisticated and charismatic taste from Conjure, which Elliot Root will be releasing on August 25th via E.R. Recordings / Thirty Tigers. I’m more than happy to ‘stay’ with Elliot Root as we look forward to hearing more from that debut LP. You can pre-order Conjure, here.
