Prompt 13 - Step

“Wait, do you two know each other?” Sirius asked, his face clouding over. 

“We do,” Remus admitted. “Hello, Regulus, darling.”

Regulus was taken aback by the sweet endearment from a man he’d only met once, but then he caught the mischief shining out of Remus’s eyes and caught on to the joke. 

“Remus? I — I can’t believe it!” He crossed the distance between them, and Remus flung his arms out wide, scooping Regulus up and spinning them around as they tittered happily about finding each other. 

Sirius was frothing at the mouth by the time Remus had put Regulus back on the ground and actually shrieked in annoyance when Remus bent down and stole a chaste kiss. 

“What the fuck is going on!” he demanded, his hand reaching for Remus but dropping at the last second.  

“He’s the one that got away,” Remus sighed dramatically. “After all these years, my love.”

“I know, but we found each other again now, so we can finally be happy.”

Remus wrapped his arms around Regulus again and held him close, blocking Regulus’s view of the room. When he could see again and took a step back from Remus, the room felt empty. James had disappeared.
