Recently the remains of mountaineer Alex Lowe were discovered on Mount Shishapangma in Tibet, 16 years after he was killed in an avalanche. While the discovery does bring a small measure of closure to friends and family, it also reminds us of the pain of our loss. It has been gratifying to see the outpouring of support for his family in recent days. I treasured my friendship with Alex and remember him as a fountain of energy and passion that forever left an impression on me. Fortunately his spirit lives on through the Alex Lowe Charitable Foundation, which underwrites a variety of programs benefitting the peoples of his beloved Nepal, including the renowned @KhumbuClimbingCenter, a mountaineering school for Sherpas and other high altitude guides. Here Alex is right at home on top of a remote ridgeline in the #EllsworthMountains, #Antarctica. #alexlowe (at Antartica)
