Happy Anniversary, Rose Rose Romance~

I remember the day you came home with a lively kiss for me and mentioned the new solo project you were given by Shining Agency. You said it was to be the truest personification of you in song, and we talked endlessly over dinner about themes and ideas, also written down by me for you, just in case you’d need them for inspiration later.

I was honored to be kept in the loop with the production of the project, especially because you wanted me to be a part of it, saying with such an ease of confidence I am a large part of who you have become. I still remember the feelings of the comfortably fierce warmth on your lips and the tight embrace I gave you when you told me that.

Through all the many wonderful parts and progress on the tracks you shared with me, I had yet to see the visuals. That was the one thing you were adamant on keeping a surprise, until the “special day” came. I was fascinated by what it could be, and through your playful smirk were you more than satisfied, curiosity glistening in my eyes in those next few days.

I pondered for hours what type of clothes and aesthetics you’d pick after seeing the ones your friends in STARISH had done before you, absolutely obsessed with everything I envisioned you in. A designer’s mind is endless when it’s always inspired, I suppose, but I knew whatever you picked, it would look perfect on you. I could only ever see you that way.

The day of your shoot for the cover was coming, and you wanted me to come with you to assist the director. The theme was “Rose Rose Romance,” so catchy and fitting of you. I got cheeky and tried to get you to tell me what you’d be wearing, but of course being far more savvy than me, you chuckled and ghosted the corner of my lip and whispered:

“My heart burns passionately with how you think about me so much.~” My breath hitched as you held onto the side of my face with a couple locks of my dark umber hair; I couldn’t stop looking into your ocean eyes.

“Trust me. You’ll see everything when the cameras go up, my angel.”

I trust you more than anything.

It felt like I floated my way to the studio for your photoshoot, a smile on my face when I greeted the staff. Upon my arrival I started chatting with the director while we all waited for you to get ready, about the type of things we’d be looking for when the cameras would start flashing, even helping some position the set perfectly. I began to stare at the faint rose damask print against the orange of the backdrop, your signature orange, finding myself absorbed in the simplicity of everything.

I didn’t realize how much time had passed thinking about this surprise and the message behind the visuals until you finally walked on set. And when I finally saw you, in only a robe, I started to understand.

Your mind is brilliant. The concept so literal, yet so symbolic. It was you.

Upon my realization, I wanted my eyes to communicate everything I was feeling to you as we were there. You approached me steadily and gave me your robe, an equally intense expression in response. I’d seen you many times like this when we were alone together, as you fully and truly are, and with this album you wanted to express that to everyone.

You trusted me even more after that day, an honor for me to join you on the path you walk.

And as you started to pose for the cameras, your poor skin probably chilled from the air as the director started giving instructions, I was completely focused on making your vision come true with every question of opinion I was asked.

That shoot was one of the greatest embodiments of you. You are honest, true, and love unfiltered, strong. And you are amazing in everything you think and do for your fans, and it’s something I’ll always cherish that you save even more of those things for me, every single day

And when the album finally released, and everything finally came together, I saw a future of us, a bouquet of different colored roses in every space we share.

Happy Release Anniversary, my darling Ren. I’m so proud of you. I love you.

This is a dream piece of mine, to show our life in the whimsical curiosity shop that Ren and I share, as a final thank-you for all the years of the global version of Uta no Prince-sama Shining Live.

It’s been a whirlwind of emotions since the heartbreaking announcement back in October and the day soon approaching, but I think I’m in a place where I can send it off with a smile.
