Excerpt from Emma Li’s Superhero Café
"I like playing. In my mind, you're never too old for some games. And I think you've earned them, along with a few treats." I turned and gestured at my donuts, where people were slowing flocking and soon they would be gone.
"Ah yes!" Bjørn boomed, "I shall consume your delicacies!" He bounded off towards the donuts and Arne followed him, shaking his head.
"Suh, dude." I turned to see Cobalt munching on a Dutchie.
"That didn't take you long," I teased.
"Dude, I've already had like five of these things."
"You know those are old man donuts right?"
Cobalt scoffed as he tossed the last bit in his mouth, "Says who? They're delicious, and nutritious."
I laughed, "Okay, sure. By the way, is everyone here?"
Cobalt shrugged, "All the Socialites, yeah. All the leaders are in a meeting. A couple Vigilantes are here too. Apparently Knightwatch is in the meeting, but I don't know how true that is."
"Why would he be?" I asked, "He's a Vigilante isn't he?"
"Yeah," Cobalt shrugged, "But he's like, the face of the Vigilantes. And he doesn't really mind coming in for the meetings. Hell, he's practically a Socialite."
"So why isn't he?" I said with a roll of my eyes, "I bet it's because he wants to remain all dark and mysterious."
"That might be," Cobalt admitted, "I think it's because he has an identity complex. Like, no one can know. And like, that mask? 100%, there's another mask on underneath it, if the original isn't already attached to his face."
"Maybe the mask is part of his face. Maybe he was born with it."
