Timber framed buildings of Celle, a stones through from Hannover (above) compared to timber frame buildings of Bristol Pre WW2 the Dutch House in Bristol (below).

Hannover and Bristol suffered greatly from the bombing, Both cities had to rebuild.

To gain a greater understanding of what Hannover looked liked pre war I travelled to Celle during a research trip to Hannover earlier this year. The town, which is about 40 mins by train is a perfect example of a complete town made from wood. With beautiful beams and painted facade it felt like stepping into a wonderland that time forgot. Carved beams, carved wood, carved carvery. 

Whilst there i observed inscriptions in the same of the facade of the buildings. Naming who lived there, when it was last renovated and other details that I couldn't quite make out due to my limited understanding of the language.
