Scarification.

Sirens have a love of pretty things and decorations and this extends to their own bodies. In some cultures it was rumored that the humans actually learned scarification and tattooing from the sirens because they mastered it long long ago.

Which body art is more common depends on region, but in general sirens prefer scarification. Scarification needs touch-ups much less often and is easier to do underwater.

Different designs give indications of which family you are in, which clan you are in and which tribe you are in. Intricate scarwork used to be an indication of very high rank but now that they can be done on land by just giving a human money rather than given out only by the tribe/clan/family mothers, they aren't as much of a status symbol.

I get the feeling that sirens are kind of hoarders but not of junk; they collect treasure and lots of really pretty things (and maybe a little bit of junk if it's really pretty and/or shiny)

But sirens also have a tendency to steal each others caches when they're stored in the water. They usually trade away stolen items though, stuff you keep in your hoard is generally things you found yourself along with a few gifts from other sirens.

Things a human gives you as gifts while they're under your spell aren't really thought of as gifts, they're more a fruit of your labors sort of thing and so are thought of as something you got by yourself.
