Scrolling Pinterest got me thinking about what’s missing from our weekends
Saturday mornings in Elsmere are kind of perfect in their own quiet way. The sun filters through the neighbor’s big maple tree, birds are doing their thing, and the street’s still calm before lawnmowers and leaf blowers start up. My partner and I usually sip coffee on the back steps, which sounds sweet in theory… but in practice, it’s kind of uncomfortable. Just a few concrete slabs, no shade, nowhere to really relax.
It’s not that our backyard is bad. It’s just unfinished. Like a sentence missing punctuation.

Our neighbors are lovely, but I wouldn’t mind a little less… visibility.

🪵 What It Got Me Thinking About
I started sketching. Again. But this time, I included actual features: a bench that wraps around one corner, a step-down platform for a little portable fire pit, some built-in planters for lavender and rosemary (because why not?).

The hope is to build something simple, maybe even this fall, that can grow with us — a place for dinners, naps, lazy Sundays. A space that invites people outside and makes being home feel like vacation at home.
