Elstar Apples

I have two approx. six years old apple trees (Elstar and Pinova) that produced a lot of apples this year for the very first time.

They always had a lot of flowers every year and sometimes they began to form fruits but in the end, I never got more then ten apples from both trees, if at all.

But this year they developed an abundance of tiny apples right from the beginning. I did not have the heart to prune them, being too happy that they were there at all, so I left all of them on the branches.

Usually, there is a rule to leave only a certain number of apples on one branch and prune the rest early on so that the remaining apples will grow big. Also, branches might break under the weight of the apples.

Yesterday I harvested all the apples from the Elstar tree, keeping only the ones that had not been punctuated by the codling moth (Cydia pomonella). I gathered two 10 litre buckets full of apples.
