I’MMA GIVE YOU A HATORI MOMENT EL!!
From Chapter 11 (Autumn 2003, Part 2):
Hatori hoped the insistence was clear in his voice. The fact was he was surrounded by reluctant patients. Yuki would never approach him on his own. He still kept quiet of his symptoms in the times that Hatori had checked on him earlier in the season and over the summer.
All he knew was that Yuki was gradually becoming worse.
All he knew was that Yuki could be scraping up breaths at the edge of his life, and he still wouldn’t reach his hand out for help.
Certainly not to the main house, at least.
“Don’t argue with me. I said you’re not allowed to go back there. You heard me, right?!”
Akito whipped a gaze to Hatori that was as much threatening as it was threatened. It weighed heavy on Hatori’s stomach. He couldn’t move.
“I heard you,” he said.
Akito smiled.
“Good. Then do as you’re told.”
Hatori knew he would.
Honestly to be honest my favorite part of Pursuit is trying to thread in little moments of the curse’s power into the fic, even in subtle ways with characters other than with Yuki and Kyo. I kind of did myself dirty and instead of creating an antagonist in a person, I tried to make it the curse itself. (Which is causing problems for me now but WHATEVER).
Hatori’s relationship with the curse has always been really fascinating to me. Mainly because he’s someone who tends to be a bit of an enabler to Akito and who seems to be somewhat??? complacent to the curse at times. But I also wanted that to start its own chain reaction – it’s because of this Yuki goes unchecked for the next few month. This is something like the last “real” authority figure in his life being kept from him.
But tbh, after what happened at New Year’s, I do think Hatori would be able to go back to Shigure’s house to check on Yuki if he was allowed to continue living with him. I like the idea that the curse is always dormant and works something like a reflex. But, really, if there’s a shock to the system you can sort of “override” the command. Again, a far cry away from how the curse used to be (and how in the intermissions people were almost 100% bound by the god’s word).

ilu el :’) i’ll talk a little about wild horses because i know that one is your fave of my stuff lmao:
when i was trying to figure out a way for kakeru to get yuki to open up a bit more about his problems, i hadn’t really expected to make up this like, fake background for him where he experiences a (very mild, intermittent) form of ptsd with regard to something that had happened to him when he was younger. i wasn’t going to delve into kakeru’s background at all, really -- being that this was more about whatever was wrong with yuki. which! it turns out i never figured out myself, and never went into. what was going to be a fic of yuki telling kakeru what was wrong turned more into kakeru talking about his own stuff, not to steal the spotlight, but because yuki’s stubborn as fuck. even to me.
i think i had originally planned for yuki to have been tipped off by a comment made by a classmate, some really benign thing, but what it was i don’t think i ever figured out lol. oh well :’)
fireside 💕
ahh i answered this here, but here’s a lil thing of my usual wardobe lmao
