Zodiac Part 5 - Virgo

For Valentine’s Day, we have Virgo. I love hair - blond, red, brunette, with or without highlights, funky colors, short, long...you get the picture. By far my favorite kind of hair, though, is jet black. I just feel like it reflects light beautifully. I chose to have my Virgo’s hair be black as a result, the stars mirrored on the surface. There’s something mysterious about a girl with gorgeous, long, black hair. (And that’s not a bias - I’ve been a ginger since birth, ha ha!)

A sweet question for you lovely Craftians: What is most beautiful to you?

Cookies...?

I doubt I had you all fooled, but these are cookies made from clay and resin. The theme of December’s Elves Box was to make a Unicorn cookie using the clay and cutter provided. I took the extra clay and shaped it into a round cookie and a bee (which is an inside joke).

I’ve never worked with clay in this way before. The softness once it was baked concerned me, so I was apprehensive about decorating. I started with the round cookie and gave it big ole’ chocolate chips - that’s my favorite kind of cookie. I went on to the unicorn next and, as you can probably tell, I went a bit overboard on sealing the entire thing. My resin went everywhere, what a mess! I’ll file down that hideous edge soon. I do like the overall look of the cookie, though; I chose to do the body of the unicorn in black because I was certain the holofilm I had would show up much better on it (I was right!).

The last cookie is a fat little bee, and this is the one I feel looks the most like an actual cookie. I took a thin layer of shimmering white resin and spread it over the ‘wings’ to give it a see-through effect that I think came out quite nice. I drew my blog name over them, too, and my hand-writing doesn’t look half bad.

Would I work with clay again? I’ll be honest: I’m not keen on it. Let me know what you think, though. Should I try this once more? What sorts of things should I try?

Zodiac Part 4 - Aquarius

Aquarius is the zodiac right before mine, and to be honest when I was growing up I was always jealous of people who had it! It sounds silly, but it always seemed like merchandise depicting the signs always drew Aquarius so much better and put more detail into it than just-...well, you’ll see soon! I went with water beads in different shades of blue for the water portion of this bezel, which I think gives it a slightly more animated look. There’s only a tiny smattering of color in the urn - I let the pearl pigment do most of the talking. Some nice little silver embellishments topped off this piece and one lone pearl. It has an elegant, almost mystic sort of feel to it that I really like.

Here’s your question, Craftians: Is your glass half full, or half empty?

Zodiac Part 3 - Leo

Today, we have Leo. I kept the resin clear with this one again, but the accents are a bit more clustered together. I chose to use mostly green and gold decorations with this one. Couldn’t help it - that big green flower bead called to me, ha ha! I added some gold glitter to the edges of its petals and in the resin in sparing amounts.

Another question, Craftians: Do you consider yourself cowardly, or brave?

Zodiac Part 2 - Sagittarius ---

Today’s zodiac piece is Sagittarius...and I have no problem admitting that I used spellcheck every single time I went to type that one in. Yikes.

I didn’t want to take away from the piece by dying the resin inside the bow a different color, so I left it clear. I think all in all that this one came out pretty lovely for looking so simple!
