QR Code Rings ---

Hoo boy! I had to do a bit of experimenting here, but this was worth it in the end.

My other best friend (I’ve got a V and a Z!) ‘Z’ wanted a plain, clear ring with a QR code inside. Because QR codes can be used to generate many different things, we settled on making these lead to his webcomic’s website. And...they actually work! We were able to scan the codes on the rings themselves. Wow! I’m really pleased with how these turned out, and he loves them.

My Mother’s Key/Mother’s Opal ---

A special piece: not only is this for my mom, but she helped me make it on Thanksgiving. She picked out a lot of the elements and watched as I put it all together. Mom’s been very supportive and encouraging of my new crafting hobby and I’m very grateful. I think this piece came out lovely as a result. The gem is honestly one of the best I’ve made so far. Both of them complement each other very well without one outshining the other, I think. Thanks, mom!

Hello again! I’m not gone, I promise.

I’m finally back with some goodies to put in the queue. You can expect something new from me every day for a good week, if I do this right! In the mean time, here’s my new set-up. I finally have an actual work station for my resin crafting (before, I was working on the floor and a tiny lap-desk).

Zodiac Part 5 - Virgo

For Valentine’s Day, we have Virgo. I love hair - blond, red, brunette, with or without highlights, funky colors, short, long...you get the picture. By far my favorite kind of hair, though, is jet black. I just feel like it reflects light beautifully. I chose to have my Virgo’s hair be black as a result, the stars mirrored on the surface. There’s something mysterious about a girl with gorgeous, long, black hair. (And that’s not a bias - I’ve been a ginger since birth, ha ha!)

Cookies...?

I doubt I had you all fooled, but these are cookies made from clay and resin. The theme of December’s Elves Box was to make a Unicorn cookie using the clay and cutter provided. I took the extra clay and shaped it into a round cookie and a bee (which is an inside joke).

I’ve never worked with clay in this way before. The softness once it was baked concerned me, so I was apprehensive about decorating. I started with the round cookie and gave it big ole’ chocolate chips - that’s my favorite kind of cookie. I went on to the unicorn next and, as you can probably tell, I went a bit overboard on sealing the entire thing. My resin went everywhere, what a mess! I’ll file down that hideous edge soon. I do like the overall look of the cookie, though; I chose to do the body of the unicorn in black because I was certain the holofilm I had would show up much better on it (I was right!).

The last cookie is a fat little bee, and this is the one I feel looks the most like an actual cookie. I took a thin layer of shimmering white resin and spread it over the ‘wings’ to give it a see-through effect that I think came out quite nice. I drew my blog name over them, too, and my hand-writing doesn’t look half bad.

Would I work with clay again? I’ll be honest: I’m not keen on it. Let me know what you think, though. Should I try this once more? What sorts of things should I try?
