a routine was a hard thing to break . even during summer vacation , haru found himself filling up time with things he normally did . studying , reading up on topics he found interesting , getting around to the books he started but never finished -- but most importantly , he did all of this at the library . recently , he'd gotten away with eating there too . ever since the vending machine was out of his favorite snacks and an employee ( the one haru had never spoken to but was definitely , definitely aware of ) passed by and wordlessly left a reese's peanut butter cup on his table . at first haru was embarrassed , knowing he'd been caught eating the chocolate in the library when he wasn't supposed to , but also took it as an invitation . ever since then he'd been trying to find a way to thank the other , but every time they exchanged words haru would conceivably cut the exchange short and quickly go do something else . he was coming off as a complete ass so far , despite his attempts to do the exact opposite .
now , he figured out a way that he couldn't possibly mess up . all it required was a box of reese's pieces and a sticky note . he waited for the right moment to sneak up to the counter where the employee usually took position behind , and left the reese's there before the other had a chance to return and see him . he was breathing a little hard when he got back to his table , picking his book right up and attempting to seem like nothing ever happened .
on the blue sticky note sitting over the chocolate box , it read : ❛ —— thank you for the reese's cup ! :) ❜
