His head lifted up to the gentle voice. Elias was in his study observing the flowers produced by the stuffed bear he had made for Chise. He hoped this would be able to create a reliable control group to how much she produced magic on her own— at least in her sleep.
“Yes, Silver?”
Her eyes were emotionless, the liveliness to them however were gone. The mage stiffened in his rolling chair and rotated to fully face her, his ruby eyes glowing bright in their sockets curiously. ‘She’s been acting strange since we returned from the kingdom of fae….’
All thought was cut off with the next spoken words.
‘……Leaves?’
The atmosphere in the room suddenly felt heavy as silence washed over the entirety of the house. There was a grinding noise echoing through the silence as the magus’s jaw clenched & released only to clench once more. Bright scarlet eyes had constricted to small orbs of light withing the darkening abyss of his eye sockets. It wasn’t a question to him—
— it was a fear.
Elias inhaled after a deafening moment of intense questions and dreadful answers flooding his mind. Shakily he exhaled. He’s thought about this before. The now dimming eyes looked down trying to collect the words he wanted to say.
“Then I am afraid we will be facing an endless winter Silky. One I do not think I could kindle even the smallest spark of warmth— we both know the cold all to well & it’s hunger to consume...”
In that moment it was hard to distinguish if he were actually talking about the cold— or himself.
She’d never witnessed such a reaction from Elias before and it rattled the golden haired Neighbor. Elias...he was her first tenant that truly understood a similar loneliness to the one she’d experienced as a Banshee. Slowly their family had grown but to know it could be erased so easily...her chest felt tight and hollow at the thought. Would they wander alone again in the endless winter he spoke of? Both her and Elias, separately?
“W-would you leave this home too Elias? If something like that happened?” The Silky asked. It was the most selfish question she had ever asked a tenant. She turned her back, not wanting him to see her expression. “When you all wander far....I can’t take care of you anymore...”
