Ā @childxofxthorn continued from here
Ā Ā His head lifted up to the gentle voice. Elias was in his study observing the flowers produced by the stuffed bear he had made for Chise. He hoped this would be able to create a reliable control group to how much she produced magic on her ownā at least in her sleep.
āYes, Silver?ā
Ā Ā Ā Her eyes were emotionless, the liveliness to them however were gone. The mage stiffened in his rolling chair and rotated to fully face her, his ruby eyes glowing bright in their sockets curiously. āSheās been acting strange since we returned from the kingdom of faeā¦.ā
Ā Ā Ā All thought was cut off with the next spoken words.
Ā Ā āā¦ā¦Leaves?ā
Ā Ā Ā The atmosphere in the room suddenly felt heavy as silence washed over the entirety of the house. There was a grinding noise echoing through the silence as the magusās jaw clenched & released only to clench once more. Bright scarlet eyes had constricted to small orbs of light withing the darkening abyss of his eye sockets. It wasnāt a question to himā
ā it was a fear.
Ā Ā Ā Elias inhaled after a deafening moment of intense questions and dreadful answers flooding his mind. Shakily he exhaled. Heās thought about this before. The now dimming eyes looked down trying to collect the words he wanted to say.
āThen I am afraid we will be facing an endless winter Silky. One I do not think I could kindle even the smallest spark of warmthā Ā we both know the cold all to well & itās hunger to consume...ā
In that moment it was hard to distinguish if he were actually talking about the coldā or himself.
Sheād never witnessed such a reaction from Elias before and it rattled the golden haired Neighbor. Elias...he was her first tenant that truly understood a similar loneliness to the one sheād experienced as a Banshee. Slowly their family had grown but to know it could be erased so easily...her chest felt tight and hollow at the thought. Would they wander alone again in the endless winter he spoke of? Both her and Elias, separately?Ā
āW-would you leave this home too Elias? If something like that happened?ā The Silky asked. It was the most selfish question she had ever asked a tenant. She turned her back, not wanting him to see her expression.Ā āWhen you all wander far....I canāt take care of you anymore...āĀ
The SorcererāsĀ Apprentice
{closed for @cxnscience }
Silver immediately had her guard up when the door opened and revealed Alice. What was thatĀ SorcererāsĀ apprentice doing here? The Silkyās outward appearance remained stoic as ever but, inside she was ready to use any magic at her disposal to keep her from coming inside if she meant to harm beloved Chise or Elias.Ā
She poised herself in the doorway, managing to look imposing- well, for her size at least. Her eyes took the woman-or rather, girl in closely. She tried to ignore her instincts softening when she noticed the girl wasnāt much older than Chise herself. Just a child when compared with a Neighbor or Mage.Ā
childxofxthorn:
āThank you Silky. Rest assured there will be no more mending for a whileāĀ
Ā Ā Ā The second part was a lie that couldnāt be helped with such an intense stare the house keeper gave him. Grabbing the robe he was quick to lift off his chair and put it back on, popping the collar with a contented sigh. Only after did he observe her work more closely, the stitching flawlessā like brand new. The mage made a mental note to leave a cup of warm cream on the mantle in gratitude before he retired to his chambers for the night.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Giving the neighbor a satisfied nod, the mage sat down once more. His eyes wandered over to the book he was studying that Chise loaned him that she told him she had enjoyed. A romantic story Chise called it. There was a holiday coming soon that revolved around such a feeling. He didnāt quite understandābut if Chise liked such a storyā¦maybeā¦
āSilkyāā
Ā Ā Ā A lingering pause as his gut felt like it was twisting. Oddā¦
āāDo you think Chise like the celebration of Valentines day?ā
Silver fixed the mage with a quizzical stare in response to his question. Valentineās Day? It had been a long time since those words had been heard in the home. She had vague recollection of the previous tenants before Elias, celebrating. They younger girls in the family did seem to enjoy it quite a bit.Ā
āPerhaps.ā The housekeeper mused in reply. She thought back on the traditions sheād seen celebrated. Something like cards and sweets exchanged?Ā āI shall bake her a cake.ā She looked back to Elias, wondering what sorts of intentions he might have for the holiday. Neither of them were exactly human and it was difficult to say which of them wouldāve had the better grasp of what a human might like for Valentineās Day.Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā In a blur of shadowy fog Ruth shifted from his canine form to human one, accepting the proffered set of garments. His gaze following the Silkyās signal to the door across the hall as he shifted the clothing in his arms. He had long since gotten used to rooms appearing && being renovated to suit the housekeeperās whims, so it came as little surprise that a fitting room be so conveniently located. He gave a curt nod, excusing himself before ducking into the room to change.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Once the door was shut && latched behind him, Ruth set about stripping away his clothes. He really couldnāt recall the last time his clothes had been laundered properly, so it was probably for the best that the housekeeper seemed so insistent on his changing. With his old clothes in a disheveled heap on the floor Ruth turned to the neatly folded stack of attire Silky had presented him. He took his time trying the new set on, admiring the handiwork && small details; the embroidery bringing the hint of a breathy chuckle to his lips. Once each article had been donned Ruth took a moment to examine his reflection, turning about to see how it fit. On all accounts the new outfit seemed appropriate in both fit && style, so he collected his old clothing from the floor && exited the fitting room.
Ā Ā Ā ā Ā They look niceā¦thanks, ā Ā he said, awkwardly offering the bundle of dirty clothes to the housekeeper.Ā ā Ā I suppose you want these. ā
āā {š¾}
At the sound of his emergence from the makeshift changing room, Silky set the broom aside and lifted her gaze up to examine him. Her bonnet and gloves had returned to their rightful places, golden hair tucked neatly away.
Ā Yes, she thought, the clothes fit him well. She wondered why he seemed a bit nervous whenĀ receiving them. Well perhaps, it was odd for a Church Grim to be given clothes? Or perhaps it had more to do with him being the newest one to their home? Chise had been a bit nervous as well at first, she remembered.Ā
At his thank you she shook her head gently, refusal to accept thanks was just part of her nature as a Silky. She did, however, received the previous set of clothes to be laundered. They were indeed dirty but, not as bad as one might expect. She looked back up at the raven haired man before her and spoke to him, for the first time since his arrival.Ā āIs there anything else that you might need, Ruth?ā Her lips formed the words so softly, anyone might have missed them. Her voice registered barely above a whisper. Silky rarely spoke, and when she did...it was only with other Neighbors, many of them not realizing she had a voice until she finally had reason to ask something.Ā

Ā Ā āGood afternoon, Silky!ā Came from the excited familiar who was here on Lindelās behalf.Ā āMaster Lindel canāt leave the Dragonsā Nest. He asks if Elias or Chise are present.ā Merituuli was used to being sent on these small missions and didnāt mind it either as this was the sole way for Lindel to contact others.Ā
Silky was surprised to find the little familiar when she opened the door. It had been a while since sheād heard mention of the Mage Lindel. In response to Merituuliās question Silver shook her head. Chise and Elias had gone into the forest today for a lesson and they wouldnāt return until sundown. A gloved hand gestured toward the forest behind the cottage. She then stood aside and gestured into the sitting room as if to say,Ā āyouāre welcome to wait.āĀ

{Just a quick note to let you know my About/Verses Page has been updated. Iāve had a couple of new followers coming in from other fandoms and wanted to be sure there was some info for you guys.}Ā
{Also as of the new episode of the anime Iāll be updating my interpretation of Cannon Verse Silky as far as speaking goes. So maybe youāll get an audible word from her every now and again? She will still remain silent with most characters. Elias, Ruth, and other Neighbors sheās well acquainted with will be the exception. [Reasoning: In my research of Brownies Iāve read that they do enjoy speaking to othersĀ āof their kind.ā] This is the interpretation Mun is currently choosing to go with.}
{No changes in AU verse Silky, though sheās not much of a talker either}

Unexpected Magic
blueyedxmoness:
What was with her? Coming back to where that stuck up mage skeleton lived. But honestly she was too fucking curious not to come back. She could sense the magic around this place, the spirits and little faes that were probably hanging around somewhere. It was natural for a Shaman to want to explore it, it was in their nature. Or at least thatās what she assumed it was, it had to be right?
Claudia also wasnāt sure why she knocked on the door either, it wasnāt like she liked the thought of being face to face with that bonehead again. Especially since she was initially insulted by him when they met. Yet she did, probably because she promised herself to try and be civil in the worlds she went to. Even if she did fail that pretty horribly and most of then ended up in fights or her getting into trouble for no reason. So when the door opened to reveal a petite young woman, she was certainly surprised in her expression. Not to mention that old fashioned outfit too. This was⦠a modern world right? Yet the owner of this house and this person were wearing outdated clothes. Maybe those stayed in fashion?
Looking at her, Claudia could tell that this person was no human from just her aura, but that didnāt mean she knew what she was. It was hard to tell with her nearly identical stoic expression the bonehead had. She didnāt seem hostile, though, and the young shaman-in-training found herself, almost timidly, walking into the house at the behest of her greeter.Ā
āUm⦠the owner isnāt home is he?ā She asked, not really sure if she would be happy with any answer given to her. She wanted to look around, but her resolve to be civil meant that she should mind her own business despite being in a place teeming with magic that she hadnāt seen before. Nothing like her home surely, which made it all the more exciting.Ā
She wondered what her mother would have thought about such a place with so much magical energy.
Silver returned to find the woman still standing, question hanging in the air. She sat the plate of muffins down on the small table next to the chair she had gestured to and shook her head. She once again extended a gloved hand towards the chair, her gaze growing more insistent.Ā
While Silver did have the ability to speak she rarely used it, even to those closest to her. Silky rarely worried over the trouble this may have caused strangers. Her duties and responsibilities lied only with her tenants. Still, she was a helpful Neighbor and never turned away a hungry visitor- unless they were a meddling priest or intended to harm her tenants.Ā

Ā Ā Reassured by her gentle pat, Ruth resigned himself to his fate, albeit a bit less begrudgingly than previously. As Silky lowered herself to the floor, Ruth too settled down for the long haul; there was no sense in tiring his legs by standing through the entire process && heād be much steadier on the ground.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Secretly the canine had a predisposed preference for the housekeeper, his toleranceĀ && affectionĀ easily bribed && bought by her cooking. In the Ainsworth household she was second only to his beloved master && he greatly appreciated the care && attention she paid said master. He also preferred to stay in her favor after witnessing her scorn.
Ā Ā Ā Ā The grim was pleasantly surprised by how gentle && patient she was, slowly && carefully working the knots && snarls with her fingers before setting about them with the brush. The process was altogether not a wholly abhorrent process, especially when she began working on his ears && the brush passed over that spot that made his legs twitch && tongue loll.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Once Silky was finished with her groomingĀ Ruth eagerly stood to stretch his cramped legs, giving his freshly groomed pelt a thorough shake. Silky was not finished though && was quickly offering him a change of clothes, her expectant gaze lingering on him as he eyed them.
Ā ā Ā You want me to change , ā Ā he asked, looking to her for confirmation.
āā {š¾}
The Silky offered him one of her rarer expressions which-was little more than an upturning of the corners of her mouth. She nodded and gestured to the room across the hall from the bathroom Chise was currently occupying. Had that been there before? Or had it suddenly appeared? Sheād been a Silky so long now that changing the house, at times, occurred at a simple thought as needs arose.
She wanted to check the fit of his clothing, then make sure his transitions between dog and human could be performed with ease- though given sheād been preparing clothes for the Magus all this time, she was confident in her ability to weave magic into clothing so that it could change forms with the wearer. Still, she was unwilling to take the chance that anything one of her tenants wore would be less than perfect. What good was a magical garment that had uneven sleeves or incorrect fit?
Whatever the case, she would wait outside the door for Ruth to change. That is, if he had any humor left for her after the brushing. Ā She waited politely for the his decision. She felt like she had forced enough on the poor familiar today to demand it of him.
Silver had yet to return her bonnet or gloves to their usual stations and her gaze was softer now that she didnāt need so much concentration.She conjured a broom and began sweeping away any bits of fur Ruth had shed during their grooming session. She wouldnāt pressure him with her prolong gaze the way she did Elias. Though she may have been considered young for her kind, the Grim was younger still. Even if she hadnāt grown fond of him, this naturally would have elicited more patience from her.

Ā Ā He had noticed the housekeeperās presence in the peripherals of his vision all morning; her intent gaze lingering over him as he went about his morning, faithfully attending his master. He had made certain to stay as close to Chise as possible for much of the day, but his protection had been forcibly eliminated when she locked herself in the bath to wash up. Finally, left alone with the maid looming, brush in hand, he surrendered to his fate.
Ā ā Ā I suppose it would be best to get it over with , ā Ā he relented with a sigh. Ā ā Ā Justā¦be gentle. ā
āā {š¾}
She wasnāt sure if it was the Church Grimās personality or heād just simply learned that there was no fighting her on these matters but, she was relieved heād relented so easily for her. She knelt beside him, skirt fanning out like fallen petals around her lap. She removed her gloves and bonnet revealing short golden hair that curled around her face.Ā
She lifted a small hand and patted Ruth once gently on his back, as if to say:Ā āIāll be careful with you.ā Then she set about the task, applying ointment and brushing in small sections. As the housekeeping Neighbor suspected there were a few tangled places. She did her best to untangle them with her fingers gently before pulling the brush through them. Patience was key when it came to caring for Ruth. He was much larger than a normal dog though admittedly- his temperament was better.Ā
She found she quite enjoyed helping take care of him. When Elias and Chise had appeared at the door with Ruth sheād been concerned about possible damages that may be incurred by the keeping of such an odd familiar. She was pleasantly surprised to find that in his dog form Ruth was gentle and tidy.Ā
Sheād not realized he had another form until sheād turned around at breakfast the next morning to find a raven haired man occupying the seat beside Chise. She thought his countenance severe though undeniably handsome by human standards, until sheād seen him consume her food. If the dog form was cleanly, the human form was anything but, at least during their mealtime. Still, she felt quite taken with the new tenant. It was nice to see someone enjoy her food with such devotion which balanced out any extra effort she may have had to put into cleaning up after him.Ā
When the brushing was finished. She sighed, staring at her handiwork. Hopefully she hadnāt vexed the Grim too badly. She leaned forward, rose tinted eyes locking with his before laying before him a folded set of new clothing. It was an almost identical match to the ones he wore every morning to breakfast. However, Silky had taken the time to embroider the sleeves of the coat with silver thread in an understated design. Sheād hidden bone-shaped designs in the embroidery as her own personal joke.Ā
She intended to get that set of clothing heād been wearing washed even if he was adverse to it at first and she hoped the near identical set of clothing would help her achieve those ends.Ā
