De debuut-EP van singer-songwriter Em George ligt vanaf 18 juli in de winkels. Hieronder kun je lezen wat Marjolein van deze plaat vindt.

EM GEORGE Em George The A&R Department De Australische Em George is een singer-songwriter, wiens stijl sterk beïnvloed is door muziek uit de jaren zeventig. Haar debuut-EP, Em George, bevat dan ook vijf songs die het beste als ‘folk’ omschreven kunnen worden. Eerder bracht ze al drie singles uit in Australië, waarvan er één is opgepikt door zender HBO, en vervolgens is geremixt door de Amerikaanse producer Stephen Kozmeniuk (bekend van o.a. Madonna en Kanye West).

Em George maakt dus folk muziek, maar haar muziek heeft, wellicht door de combinatie van haar stem en de rustige akoestische gitaren, ook iets etherisch, een eigenschap die lang niet alle folkmuziek bezit. Haar stem is helder, haar teksten zitten goed in elkaar en alhoewel de nummers muzikaal gezien voornamelijk uit een akoestische gitaar bestaan, klinken ze voller en krachtiger dan dat. Em George is een heel mooie debuutplaat, van iemand waarvan we hopelijk nog veel gaan horen. – Marjolein Maassen

On February 6, Em George will be releasing her third single "Paper Heart" via Pavement Records. The whole single is carried by George's powerful vocals. I like that the single is accompanied by a simply guitar (in a minor key?). The single guitar gives the song a brittle/fragile sound, perhaps reflecting how a paper heart is a fragile thing. Throughout the song, there are bits where the triangle comes in and I think it plays really well with the idea that heart are rather very dainty things.
