A new batch of antique and vintage linens has just begun to arrive in the shop! So delicate and beautifully embroidered, these are pieces that have been held in one family’s private collection for three generations. Blanche was the lady with the eye for embroidery who began this love affair of a collection back in the 20th century. Like my grandmother Lucy, Blanche grew up in an orphanage in New York in the early years of the 1900s. There she learned how to sew and to make lace, which she turned into a career as an adult. Supplying small boutiques in NYC with lace collars, Blanche made a whole world for herself out of fine fabrics and intricate embroidery. When she wasn’t poking around the antique shops of heirloom New York on collecting trips for herself, she was adorning her own linens with intricate threadwork that was stunning and unique. Coming this week to the shop are some of her collections of tablecloths, napkins and kitchen linens. The pink linen beauty pictured here, with the mint and purple florals is one of my favorites!
