It's not just capitalism as a standard, but latter-day hyper batshit insane capitalism. I could perhaps tolerate pre-21st century capitalism to a degree. It wasn't perfect by any means, but now? It's like defining every single aspect of our lives. There is no off time. Every single thing is framed through the market. Instagram is full of walking, talking human branding. Not just for the fun of it, but for the blood-sport-like kill of leaving the competition in the dust. The them versus us mentality is thriving tenfold, and all aspects of life that aren't the great and holy competition seem to be relegated to second league extras. Art for art's sake, love, emotions, feeling things, experiencing nature, just being and enjoying this seemingly rare existence in the cosmos, rather than just plundering and pillaging everything.
It might sound cliché when I rant on about capitalism this, and capitalism that, but it's far beyond the somewhat passive, essentialist aspects of that system. It's not a system we use solely when working any more, but an ideology that has come to define us almost entirely.
