Enjoying creating my #emeraldgearsofoz map! 🗺✍️ 1. I kept getting confused when I was writing the story about the locations and distances between different territories, towns, and landmarks so I figured I have to just make a whole map! 2. I love the town name “Tattypoo” 😂 . . #oz #wizardofoz #map #imaginarymaps #fantasy #design #adventure #graphicdesign #adobeillustrator #dabudoodles #wip https://www.instagram.com/p/B4G0ZF7AYMT/?igshid=hf2m49ncybk0
Writing looks so much better in print! 😱📗 I definitely need a copy editor but Steven King says you can’t edit anything if you haven’t written anything. So... progress! . . #oz #emeraldgearsofoz #writing #fantasy (at Ann Arbor, Michigan) https://www.instagram.com/p/B34qbN0p4gr/?igshid=ky98276xdtbi
“Kappo leaned heavily on the bar and motioned with his trunk for a drink. “Peanut Bourbon.” The stone-faced bartender nodded and grabbed a small glass from the shelf. Being an elephant, Kappo never forgot a face, which helped him immensely in Oz politics. He also never forgot a voice. “Has the package arrived safely?” a voice whispered. Without looking Kappo knew it was Elrich the Tinkerer. He had noticed him in the bar earlier bartering with some Toks, but didn’t want it to be known this was his Rebellion contact. “We can’t talk here. Eyes are on everything,” Kappo murmured. He had spotted the reflective eyes of Glass Cat in the wooden rafters above. “Southern road in an hour.” Thunder crashed outside the bar, and somewhere over his shoulder a patron laughed. The rock bartender extended his slate hand presenting Kappo’s swirling drink on the bar. He took a short drink then turned to see that Elrich was already gone. Kappo glanced upwards again, and Glass Cat was gone from the beams as well. “Trees are generally good folk, but certain mountain valleys can have unique viewpoints or opinions,” Ayety mused. Zep finished his drink and listened hesitantly as the large tree woman went on. “I have acted as best I can as a representative for the trees, and as well the Animates, because of my unique constitution within both.” “Were you a tree that was Animated?” Zep inquired, “or an Animated piece of wood that continued to grow?” Lightning briefly flashed in the windows. Ayety thought for a long moment staring off into the distance, finally replying,”That is a very good question.” In the pause, Kappo returned to the table and Zep was happy to be saved from the obscure line of questioning.” . “Metallic clanking soldiers marched in winding hobbling lines throughout the repurposed Gillikin capital. What once was a proud prosperous city had been lost to a fog of construction, metalworking, and large-scale transportation. At corners that once lined the local market instead stood iron buildings used to forge iron and ore to make weapons of warfare. The park within the financial district was littered with dying trees, blocked from getting sunlight by the curling smoke overhead. The white buildings of local government with their purple Gillikin flags and fanfare were stained a putrid yellow green. The soldiers marched on indifferent of the culture they had extinguished. “De-cree Code?” demanded an automaton as Brother walked beneath the security archway just inside the gates. Four additional robotic soldiers stood on the archway overhead, brandishing large rifles. Brother held up his arm and his green armor plating unhinged revealing a small gold rectangular panel. It read: EMERALD ARMY – TIKTOK 5 UNIT 8207432 “Pass,” the guard stated, and waved his gun. Brother closed his forearm casing and continued under the arch into the oily cobblestone streets. Brother had done his best to hide his intentions and emotions, as he was a Cog. His Thinking gears were more developed then his Speaking and Walking gears, and as such he more closely reflected on the world around him. He also cognitively was closer related to the rebellion and meat-beings of Oz then of the metal ones. Animates, living creations assembled and animated by the Powder of Life, shared this insightfulness natively as well. Externally, Brother resembled all other TikTok 5’s which was the current iteration of TikToks making up the Emerald Army. TikTok versions 2-4 were developed long ago and eventually decommissioned leading up to the present day 5th version. Some TikTok 2’s had fled Oz following the announcement of 3’s, and the same occurred when 3’s were replaced with 4’s. . . “The package Zep carried with him for delivery to Kappo and Ayety was a rare and powerful book the Rebellion was searching for all across Oz. Mombi, the powerful sorceress of the North, compiled a book of enchantments and charms long ago and kept them in a spell book locked with a silver key. Officially known as Mombi’s Book of Enchantments Volume 8 (the last volume written while she was alive), it was protected by a powerful enchantment of its own that protected the pages from damage, destruction, and replication. Zep had discovered this when he received the book many days prior on the frontline, but it is an extremely long story within the story you already find yourself reading. It all began in the town of Tattypoo, with a Quadling named Grice Goverly. Most of Mombi’s tricks were transformational for shape-shifting and obscuring the form of a living being– most notably the transformation of Princess Ozma into a young boy, Tippetarius. Other spells included enchantments over artifacts, fear-inducing illusions, and even darker spells could bring pains, plague, and sickness to others. It also listed the recipe for the Poweder of Life, but since the rise of the Animates some years ago, that recipe was available everywhere. The Rebellion was most interested in was the Summoning Call for a monster known as the Rak. This “befouling beast” was a curiosity in Oz (some said it originated in a different world altogether, the most rampant theory being it came from the skies of Nowhere in the far reaches of the ocean) as it was a hateful beast with a burning belly of fire and massive wings of smoky storm clouds. It hadn’t been seen in years (reliably) but there was rumor that Mombi’s Book of Enchantments had documented a way to call on the creature to do the bidding of the decrier. Similar rules of magic existed in Oz with other beasts, so it was not entirely out of the realm of possibility. “Why the Rak? It sounds dreadful!” A short Gillikin girl asked by wavering candlelight in the dimly lit library.” . . #emeraldgearsofoz Chapter 1 Part 3 ❇️✍️ #oz #wizardofoz https://www.instagram.com/p/B3UgMEkATsn/?igshid=x04vr40msd02
The rain was cold and the streets of Reach were dark with loneliness. Shivering, Zep scampered through the winding maze of cobblestone promenades and alleyways until he heard a din of fanciful music. Shielding his eyes from the torrents of water cascading from rooftops, he squinted upward and saw a simple wooden sign in the shape of a beer stein hanging over a large entryway reading: FAR REACH. The heavy oak door swung open with some difficulty for the tiny being; but, once Zep entered the tavern the work was worth the effort. The laughter, heat, and smells of cooking meals reminded him of a time before the war, when Oz was a different place. His focus on finishing this important delivery mixed with a calming nostalgia of a bygone childhood he once enjoyed. Music emanated from another backroom of the bar. Looking out over the scene he spotted an empty table towards the back of the pub, and quickly made his way there, weaving in between barmaids, soldiers, Animates, and aristocrats. Once there, he realized why it was empty; the stool was made for a giant and he was forced to extend his height on his toes just to pull himself up to the seat. That was one of the problems with inclusive cities as of late – everything had to accommodate all manner of beasts and beings, and they don’t all come in the same size. “Evening sir.” A blonde barmaid stood at Zep’s right balancing a large serving tray between her palm and shoulder. Multiple drinks perched precariously on it. “What’ll you be drinkin’, aye?” “Just a HoppleScotch, with a pinch of honey,” Zep replied. “Outta’ honey, Honey. No imports as of late,” the disenchanted stewardess explained. Zep, caught off guard, thought for a moment. “Yes, my fault. HoppleScotch on its own then.” “Coming right up,” she replied with a smirk and milled into the crowd. Zep removed his hat, shaking off a bit of the rain, and then began to assess the scene. . .
