Not Much Hope In Tomorrow [Emercury RWBY Fanfic]
(Been planning this fic for a bit, but this is only part of it, full fic will be on my A03 once it’s completed)
@emercuryweek Day 3 Alone Together/Grief
Mercury watches her body as it’s slowly breathing. Her chest raising slightly and then lowering. She’s been comatose for over a week since straining herself after processing that Cinder wasn’t coming back. He spends nearly every second by her side, only leaving if absolutely necessary.
“As soon as you wake up, we’re leaving this place. We can’t stay here, Em. We aren’t needed, you know what will happen to us,” his fists tighten at the thought. Salem didn’t want anything to do with them. They were only allowed to be there because of Cinder.
“Come on, Em...Don’t just give up like this...We still have each other, isn’t that enough?” He drags his fingertips along her palm and whispers, “You’re all that matters to me. Always have been all that mattered. I never even wanted to be part of Cinder’s group, but I saw you and was like ‘hey she’s cute so why the hell not’ but now you mean more to me than I originally thought you would…”
Before Emerald, the only person he cared about was his mother. She would always protect him when his father would rage at him when drunk. She always cared more about him than her own health. One night she wasn’t there to protect him. She hadn’t gotten out of bed that day. Mercury had been taking care of her, but his father had interrupted his care taking and proceeded to beat him over nothing. That night his mother had passed away in her sleep, with the banged up Mercury curled beside her. Waking up to find his mother dead left him dead too. That was the last time he cared for someone.
He looks up at Emerald’s face, noticing how calm she looks. He feels a weight on his chest, knowing that the first words out of her mouth are going to be “Where’s Cinder?” And he’ll have to attempt to make sure she doesn’t have another panic attack.
He sighs as he touches her forehead with his.
“Wake up…Please Emerald…”
