My family is close friends with a woman in our community facing eviction. We have VERY limited time to get emergency funds together for her before her and her children are turned out and lose their housing voucher (which allows her to pay her rent).
Our friend is formerly houseless, though she has been living in relatively stable housing for about 7 years as she's raised her two daughters. She was widowed during the first year of the pandemic and has struggled to keep up with the house since her husband died due to grief and worsening chronic pain symptoms. Recently she was forced to move due to renovations. She was told that she didn't need to clean by both the landlord and the moving company. My partner, my mother and I all helped her clean it a bit to get it up to basic standards. She was told the packing and moving fees would be completely covered.
However, on the 15th she was served an eviction notice citing unpaid funds from the moving company related to "unsanitary conditions". They are charging her $2850 for said conditions. We have 5 days to get the funds together before she is evicted.
We are asking for an additional $2150 as a safety net for her and her children and in case there are any other fees. Please, share this as widely as you can. This is extremely urgent!!!
