After finishing the initial checks on the engine, you rolled the train out of the unloading zone and into the hazy expanse of Titan’s landscape. The spool of the engine was audible as the locomotive accelerated to track speed. Outside, dull oranges and reds flew by, smearing into a muddy melange of color. Due to the weaker gravitational pull of Titan compared to Mars, the train could easily reach speeds of 250 kilometers per hour with a full load of hydrocarbons. That translated to approximately enough fuel for a standard destroyer to perform forty faster-than-light jumps.

The round trip between the refinery and the distribution base wouldn’t take more than three and a half hours, and lucky for you, there were no other shipments planned for the rest of the sol cycle. You were looking forward to the first real break from work you’d been allotted since your transfer to Titan.

However, this morning, you never got a chance to fill up the tankers. Bright sparks of light had illuminated the twilit sky as a thunderous rumble filled the canyon. There was no time to despair. The Earthens were attacking.
