As you may have understood from the profile picture and the greeting, I am a huge The Witcher fan. I’ve been one for about two years thanks to The Witcher 3. I have yet to play The Witcher 1 and 2, but I promise I will as soon as I get a decent PC! I have played Thronebreaker and I’ve spent about 700 hours on Gwent (Beta + Homecoming). I have also read the books and it’s thanks to them that I’ve started to like some characters that didn’t totally convice me in the games, like Emhyr, but this is the subject for another blog ;) That said...

Another one from my screenshot collection. Whats the story? Geralt bows to the emperor.

I admit the graphics of the game is impressive: Geralts afk face, the weather, the disdain of humans, the entire world! But whats more impressive is seeing Emhyr's reaction to the bow. Not a blank stare, not a frown. But a quirk of the lips and narrowed eyes.And I was WOAH! I like this guy!

Why my loyalty is to the enemy?

I’ve been asked-several times, in fact- why do I like Emhyr? Why do I like Nilfgaard, the invaders? My answer isn’t to sway others. They are simply my answers. Im lucky to have met others who think like me: that Nilfgaards’ order and discipline may just be what the North needs, and that Emhyr may be the best monarch the world has to offer. Most of all, the emperor is true to his role as The Emperor. His time and heart belongs to the empire that he has little else of him left for love and friends. And only when no one is looking, when his back is facing his guest, you’ll see his hidden humanity, his sadness, and even some regrets. But he has to keep that to himself to run his large, growing empire. Any sign of weakness and the nobles will be onto him like vultures on a corpse.So far, Emhyr Var Emreis is the second emperor I have taken a liking to. The second is the God Emperor Leto Atreides III. In the witcher games, the villain isn’t your run of the mill bad guy. And I got to know Emhyr several times in the books, and I realize, he isn’t as bad as everyone thinks he is. For someone not known for his patience, he was plenty patient with Geralt even tolerated his insolence. And when you get the witcher Ciri ending, Emhyr lets him go. Any other monarch would thrown him in the dungeons or lop his head off. Lets not forget his redemption arc in the books.

My opinions are my own. I have heard all the rebuttals, and nothing-nothing!- will sway me to change allegiance.

(As I see it, even if people hate turning Ciri into an Empress because its not what she wants and she loses her freedom, isnt having her rule Nilfgaard the best for all? Last I check, no one twisted her arm to sit on the imperial throne-not Geralt, Emhyr, or Yennefer. She decided that herself).
