A song that you remember from your childhood
I grew up in a musical environment. I’m not the son of musicians or anything, but at home, music was always playing. My mom used to sing me Silvio Rodríguez’s songs. La Canción del Elegido was my favourite, and I still know the words by heart. This song was beautiful back then when I gave no shit about other’s political ideologies, and it’s still beautiful despite our differences.
There’s also a beautiful Venezuelan song by an anonymous author called Si de noche ves que brillan. It never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Its lyrical beauty is incomparable.
Si de noche ves que brillan,
titilantes, las estrellas,
Es que asi se besan ellas.
Si una nube vierte perlas
no es que llora, es que sube;
es que sube y, en el aire,
siente el beso de otra nube.
es que mi alma te da un beso.
This is a great version. Sadly, video quality is subpar, but it’s really hard to find a recording of it.
A song that reminds you of yourself
Well… Pretty much like “what’s your favourite artist?”, this question is incredibly hard to answer. Honestly, the answer changes depending on where in life am I. Probably the one that described me for a long period was Barriers, by Aereogramme. The video is gorgeous, too, but shitty resolution is a deal killer.
Currently, there are two songs which remind me of myself. Johnny Cash’s version of Hurt, which I find way better than the original (and I believe even Trent thinks the same), and History Book, by Dry The River. It’s hard to describe what I’m going through, nonetheless, every time I listen to these songs I can’t help but to smile, maybe shed a tear and say “Hey, that’s me”.
