a cold reunion

Trying to make sense of this place was like walking around in circles. She’d done all the exploring she could, as much as students were allowed. She really needed to get back though..what would happen if she wasn’t there to participate? Someone else would be chosen and she would lose her chance..though she was sure there were some that would rejoice to see she had disappeared.
The thought made her throat tighten and she quickly shoved it back where it had come from. The only familiar face she had around here was Puck, her ever present companion. At least, during the times he was summoned.
“Say, Lia, what do you want to get for lunch today?” he asked, hovering by her shoulder as she walked down the hallway. It was a good question, but before she could answer, she spotted a familiar face in the crowd. “Lia?” Puck blinked, glancing at her, then following her gaze.
It couldn’t be..but there he was, looking fairly healed for the most part. That was good. She was glad for that, and maybe, somewhere in the back of her mind, glad to know there was one friendly presence here. But then she immediately remembered their last encounter, the harsh words they’d thrown at each other. They were both to blame, she supposed. But she couldn’t take it back, and she wasn’t ready to face him. Especially not so soon.
She was vaguely aware of Puck trying to get her attention, but she simply turned on her heel and began to march back the way she had come. She’d find another way--the less she could encounter him, the better, probably.
“Wha--Lia! Wait for me!” the cat-like spirit exclaimed, casting one look back at Subaru. There was no way he hadn’t seen them. Emilia was going to have to face him sooner or later.
