I'm Emily!
My name is Emily Preston, I'm pursing my Bachelors in Architecture and headed into my third year. I'm from Reading, Massachusetts and recently adopted a puppy named Piper. I want to help create and be a part of a team that brings in a variety of different perspectives and prioritizes sustainability.
Supportive Buddies
One of the mentorship/sponsorship actions I will commit to are knowing what I know and being open to what I don't know. I'm ready to commit to this because I want to be able to share my knowledge with people and help them grow and learn, while also growing and learning myself. During my time at DCAMM I have learned so many new things and hope to be able to use this new information to help others.
An Upbeat Mentor
A good mentor is someone who is passionate about their work, responsible, understanding, kind, and supportive. Over the past week Brenna has gone above and beyond on being a great mentor. She has shown us what it's like to be part of the DCAMM family, what good collaboration looks like, and how important it is to ask questions. Today Brenna took my team and I on a site visit to the Shattuck hospital where we learned about how to design for correctional facilities and the department of mental health. It was interesting to see how they designed the Shattuck hospital to be able to suit the needs of both these departments.
A Careful Client
Since being at DCAMM my team and I have seen a variety of interesting projects. Ranging from higher education, court houses, and hospitals. The project that has inspired me the most would be the new renovation of the House of Senate at the state house. It was interesting to learn about how they persevere the historical materials while the room is under construction. In order to persevere the wood frames they had to mark where each individual piece is, in order to know where to place each piece once construction was finished.
