So I've been rereading Run 'Verse for the umpteenth time and a thought occurred to me. If Stane was Hydra, then wouldn't it be likely that he told Hydra about Darcy?
Oh, that’s a good point. If he was Hydra that’s entirely possible. But, he seemed like the shady kind of guy who was always keeping his cards hidden. Possibly even from Hydra. He may have wanted to hold the Darcy card in case he needed to play it at one point.
I think if he’d succeeded in killing Tony, he entirely intended to groom Darcy as Tony’s replacement. Maybe a more malleable, influenceable Stark. (Well, or so he thought. Ahahahahaha.) Then he would have had to reveal her identity to Hydra.
The question is why did he choose that moment to get rid of Tony? Because of the Jericho? If he was Hydra, was that a big piece they wanted? Or, even if he wasn’t Hydra, but was just working with them (he’d clearly sell to whoever had the cash), maybe he chose that moment because Darcy had finally reached an age where he felt like he could use her as her father’s replacement. She was about the age Tony was when his parents were killed, after all.
I kind of feel like maybe that’s a big move he wouldn’t have wanted to reveal until he was sure of it. Until all his other pieces were in place. And maybe he wanted control of Tony, which would mean keeping Darcy close and under his control, too. It could have all blown up if Hydra wanted to try and make a move on Darcy, or use her to get something from Tony.
But, that’s a good question. Did he tell them? Hmm ...
