Saturday the 14th
... Where do I begin.?
We plan a trip to Worlds of Fun, for the 14th of October, over a month in advance. The days are requested off for work, the money is saved up and the tickets are bought. The morning comes and the weather prediction is thunderstorms and a possible tornado.
Welp... The question is, do we go and hope for the best.? Or stay home and let the money go to waste. Sure the tickets can be used any day, but they have to be used this year, it's mid October and there is no way the six of us will be able to get another day off together.
So three hour trip both ways it is.. Hoping for the best. The six of us cram into a five seat car and start our journey. We are 30 minutes away, and as we take our exit to KC, we hit a slick spot from the rain, and through the grass we slide down a hill.
Woo-hoo.!
Thank goodness the only damage was to the back right tire, it is destroyed, but everyone is fine. Two of our group start walking so we don't get a ticket for to many people. And the rest of us then wait 2 1/2 hour for a tow and a jack to help us out of the ditch and replace the tire..
Three hours after the initial "slide", we are now back on the road and trying to make the most of our day by going to Worlds of Fun still.
We get to the park, scan our tickets and begin walking to the first ride we see, CLOSED.. We try the next one, CLOSED. We ask the first crew member we see, and they say they won't be running the rides until the storm is over.
The thing is... The storm hasn't even started yet.. So we head to try and get our money back, since they didn't bother to tell us at the main entrance that none of the rides were being ran.
We are told they can't do a refund because the park isn't technically closed yet, that we should just wait out until the storm passes. So we go to find some food while we wait and suddenly it is pouring. It's crazy..
We are instructed to take shelter, that there are warnings for a tornado. So we take shelter, wait out the storm, and then once the storm passes we decide to try guest services again. They say they are still open, that if we want a refund we will have to call tomorrow.
We are just so done. So we head to the car, and as soon as it's on, we notice that there is a horrible rattling noice when we go faster than 60 mph.
We then spend the next 4 1/2 hours driving home, its dark, it's raining, we are on deer lookout, and we are terrified that the new tire might fall off.
I am so happy to be home and that my brother's and sister's are safe and sound. We definitely had an adventure we will never forget.
Saturday the 14th...way worse than any Friday the 13th I've ever had..
