so i got six likes on that post and have no idea what i’m supposed to do because i didn’t spell it out on my original post lmao but here are six recommendations and a brief reason why they’re great

these are all the A-level ones. if you’ve seen these or want the B-level ones, lmao, let me know

the snow bride (2014): tropes include fake dating and a surprise kiss, brothers who are/were in love with the same girl, and angst mired not out of stupid circumstances (well, take that with a grain of salt) but rather do i do this for my career/myself or do i not do it because i love you. pretty faces, cozy sweaters, patricia heaton(?) as the weird matriarch kennedy not the kennedys. fun, tropey, ridiculous, fun, everyone looks like they’re having a great time.

enchanted christmas (2017): exes reunite by accident, there’s dancing! and a kid (if that kind of turns you off). they were high school sweethearts with Different Visions for their lives, she doesn’t want to overturn her life/her daughter’s life by getting messed up with him, he might go out on tour with his dancing partner, who can say what madness will happen! there’s dancing, carlos pena teaching young children how to dance via cookie metaphors, and irl marrieds who seem to dig each other a lot playing off each other.

the mistletoe promise (2016): another fake dating movie with an actual contract! two grinches who don’t like christmas end up meeting by chance at a shopping mall food court (for real!) and decide that they will be each other’s dates to office christmas gatherings because they’re both single and both hate christmas but want to get further in their career. sure! feelings end up complicating things, duh. the end of this one is kinda lame (pardon the word), but the rest of it makes up for it.

stop the wedding! (2016): rachel boston is really charming and i don’t really get it. this is the anti-parent trap. two grown ass adults (who should know better) find that their respective parental figures (her aunt, his father) are engaged. they think it’s going way too fast, they don’t trust each other, and so they conspire to get them to break up. along the way, they reveal their trust issues to one another and fall in love!

autumn in the vineyard (2016): fake romeo & juliet with two families who own competing vineyards? anyhow, rachel leigh cook is an Old School wine-maker who believes in idk communing with the grapes on the trellises while brendan penney who sounds like Every Ontario Boy Ever has gone to University and studied Wine-Making and thus knows Science and uses Technology and Drones to make sure that they get the best wine ever. this one also is exes reuniting because he once made out with her in high school or something, anyway, they bicker a bunch and she’s trying to open her own winery to impress her dad, love results, etc.

once upon a holiday (2015): this is roman holiday a la hallmark, at christmas-time. she’s a sheltered princess who’s constantly watched. while she sneaks out from her keepers to wander the art galleries (bc she’s an aspiring photographer), she gets mugged (it’s fake new york) and he’s a total civilian who tries to be a good samaritan and get her wallet & camera back. he takes her around town bc she has no money, no phone, and uh. that’s not great in any city. they fall in love.

The awesomely named "PROBE". They have a help line but I can't bring myself to call it especially since the operators might be like "I don't know" and honestly, the hypothetical conversation with the hypothetical operator I've rehearsed in my head keeps going off the rails and is making me want to fling myself into space.

Fanfic meme! #32 and #36

32. Who’s the one character who shines without you even trying?

Ha ha ha. This question spun me into a brief spiral of self-doubt. What does that mean–shine? Does that mean I think I make them shine?? Is it conceited to think that way??? I don’t know how to answer things or even think???

I have a lot of feelings.

I’ve been writing this Rae Earl/My Mad Fat Diary fic for almost a year now and I don’t know what it is. The first person narrative? The humor? The silliness? The fact that it’s mostly about realizing that being a grown-up and not having everything 100% figured out doesn’t mean that you’re not “all right”? But I love her voice, her hard-won optimism, I think she shines, I really like her and I don’t feel like I have much to do with it? It exists independently of me? I take no responsibility for the shining.

Let’s see… First, there was the inevitable, the dreaded, the unavoidable CALL TO MUM.

I’ll give you the highlights.

She got another tattoo, this one of an “R” and a “J”. People are going to think she’s some sort of Shakespeare fanatic.

I was certain you couldn’t get a tattoo if you were Muslim. Ask Jazz about this.

I told her about Andy and she was silent for a minute or so and then she talked about her upcoming trip to Morocco. For fuck’s sake, you’d think I would’ve received a bit more than that. I would’ve even taken a sad-voiced “Oh, Rachel Earl.” So much for tea and sympathy.

Karim is doing great, he spoke to me for about three whole minutes–a record! He’s taking mum to a Moody Blues concert, he is dead excited about that. He started doing this meandering croon-wail which I think was meant to be Nights in White Satin.

He really is the sweetest man in the world. I’m convinced mum cast some some sort of spell back in the ‘90s and conjured him to her daft specifications.

A new diet! Paleo. I didn’t ask. Perhaps it’s leaf-based?

Followed by a question about whether I remembered to bring her the quince jam she asked for. Did you not hear the bit where I was thrown over on holiday???

She invited herself over for a weekend trip in March giving me plenty of time to stock up on wine and/or Xanax.

36. Have you ever sincerely written a ship you do not support into a fic?
