The first days of the war had been brutal, entire city blocks decimated and destroyed under the weight of all that had been unleased. A part of the city was burning, a building blown up for the sake of eliminating another threat. The sounds of howls had been all around them, some close, while others remained so distant. The very sounds had called to Tripp, slipped deep into his being and begged for him to unleash his own beast upon them. But he had not been able to abandon his post, knowing the necessity of ensuring that his family were protected at all costs. A notion that ate into him that very moment, as he awaited any sort of word about Eoin. The uncertainty left him anxious, unable to remain in one place for too long. Especially with how crowded the base camp seemed to be, with those injured and those scared for what the rest of the war would bring. So he had taken to walking, to meandering around in the hopes that he would calm his wolf, that he would not do something stupid for the sake of reuniting his family. "Well, aren't I so fucking lucky," words dripped from his tongue like acid, as his gaze landed on the vampire.

It had been years since Emir had seen his brother-in-law. Former brother-in-law, he reminded himself. He wasn't quite sure what he was supposed to refer to Drew as now. Ever since his sister had passed, Emir had avoided her husband like the plague. It wasn't that he held him accountable, not really. Emir knew that there was nothing Drew could've done, and it was clear in the aftermath that the event had left him as broken as the rest of the family, but he also didn't not hold him accountable. He'd been her husband and she'd died. So, fair or not, Emir had held it against him. Now, though, years had passed, and he was trying to remind himself that they'd been friends before. "Thanks for coming," Emir greeted. His lips turned up in a wry sort of grin. "I know it's a weird choice of place since I don't drink, but I just like the vibes."

Emir shouldn't have shown up here, he was fully aware of that, but days like these were made for spending with family, and regardless of their history, Sofia was family. He wasn't sure that she would agree, though. This was one of those, it's the thought that counts, moments he assured himself as he knocked on her door. He'd spent the morning with his parents and siblings, engaged in the usual Arslan family rituals and traditions, and now, here he was. He was hoping that the desserts he'd picked up would soften the blow of his sudden appearance.

"Eid Mubarak, beloved," he greeted when she opened the door, flashing a smile as if it was perfectly normal to show up uninvited to one's ex's house. "I come bearing gifts."

 if you’re hearing HOW DO YOU FEEL by THE MAINE playing, you have to know EMIR ARSLAN (he/they; demi man) is near by! the 36 year old HS GYM TEACHER/COACH has been in denver for, like, HIS ENTIRE LIFE. they’re known to be quite FICKLE, but being FLEXIBLE seems to balance that out. or maybe it’s the fact that they resemble SERKAN CAYOGLU. personally, i’d love to know more about them seeing as how they’ve got those THE CLOYING SCENT OF CIGARETTES, CONSTANTLY BRUSHING HAIR OUT OF THEIR EYES, AND COULD’VE GONE PRO vibes. and maybe i’ll get my chance if i hang out around the DOWNTOWN long enough!

emir had always known that he was meant for great things. He’d heard it so many times that the refrain felt as if it was imprinted on his soul. As a child, the word prodigy had been thrown around. It was what was to be expected of a arslan child – his parents would have nothing less.

so, it was hardly any surprise when he received a full scholarship to play football. what else could be expected of the HS's star quarterback? but being the QB for a HS team was vastly different than playing for a D1 college and emir found himself crashing and falling.

suddenly, talks of going pro dried up, and the hometown hero became just that -- just a hometown hero with a lot of unrealized potential.

it didn't help that, even as he watched his career go down in the single most anti-climactic explosion of what ifs, emir's relationship was following a similar trajectory. he was not even 30 and he was well on the way to divorce.

all that was left for him was to move back home and take up the teaching position he'd turned his nose up at just a few years before.

it's been a few years and emir is still teaching at the HS and coaching the HS's football team. at 36, he's never been less satisfied in life, but he's not quite sure what to do about it.
