Emley Moor Mast (Current official name: Arqiva Tower) Emley Moor mast sits about 1.5km outside the small West Yorkshire village of Emley. Constructed in the 1960's to replace its ageing (and disintegrating) predecessor, this Grade 2 listed structure rises to a whopping 330.4m above ground level and currently beams our digital TV signal's and other comms out across the region. According to Wikipedia, here are some stats (not sure how current they are): It is the tallest freestanding structure in the United Kingdom. Seventh-tallest freestanding structure in the European Union (until Brexit at least). Fourth-tallest tower in the European Union (until Brexit at least). 24th-tallest tower in the world. The mast is visible from a huge number of locations in the region. As a kid, I can always remember returning from family trips away and as soon as I saw the mast thinking "I'm almost home". Three weeks ago, as the taxi brought me the scenic route from Manchester Airport, I can remember having the same thoughts when I saw the mast. #emleymoormast #kirklees #westyorkshire #lusciouslandscape @fujifilm_uk @fujifilmglobal (at Emley Moor transmitting station)
