So anyways I think the worst part about Emma May is that she was so so loved. Fidds almost destroyed a city because she left him. Can you imagine loving someone that much? To the point of wanton destruction? She just couldn’t give him what he truly wanted so she lost her place in his list of priorities. He got carried away in Ford’s dazzling world and forgot that she was a person who needed companionship and attention, that she wasn’t just a concept to yearn for from a distance. Fiddleford forgot that she was a person a PERSON and all we see is this negative space, a garage in Palo Alto, an imprint left in their marriage bed, half a face on his desk, this forensic scattering left in her son’s existence and a crazed lunatic missing a Family, a Wife. She once existed. And he dug such a deep well of sadness within her that she quite literally disappeared completely from the narrative. Something something there’s a particularly cruel pain left by the selfishness of kindhearted men. Emma May, was it worth it?

OH I'm so happy to see how you drew Emma-May!!! Her hair looks so fluffy and beautiful, and the choice of purple for her shirts and sweaters was such a good one! I also really like her tooth gap and her freckles. If you don't mind, what were the inspirations for your interpretation of her design? Like... why purple of all colors? I'm curious because I often see her being given orange or green as a main color.

As for why she’s purple, there’s actually an absurdly long and convoluted reason to it, but I’ll try to be succinct!

A lot of my modern Emma-May ideas come directly from an AU my friend @kitcatia and I have been brewing for the past like, 9 months. Emma is a huge character in the AU and so her characterizations and design have since bled into my own personal ideas and hcs for modern/“canon” Emma-May.

The Emma-May in said AU actually grew up in Ciphertology, before escaping to elope with Fiddleford. This aspect of the AU was heavily inspired by my other friend, @pixeltwix’s post about the Dixon Family’s possible connection to Ciphertology! I’ll link that here in case you’re interested. (Here’s the Link!) Anyways, Emma in the AU directly defied her family, Ciphertology as a whole, and of course Bill himself, and since we’ve been using Yellow is the color for Ciphertology and Bill, it made sense to give Emma a color that was opposite that. Since yellow and purple are opposites on a RYB-based Color Wheel, we landed on that! So, when I started thinking of Emma even outside of the AU, I always thought of her being Purple! (I also still think that my modern Emma interpretation is also a survivor of Ciphertology but that’s not what you asked-)
