She hadn't needed the hospital, not when the wound was that small; the only danger had been from the bleeding, because she had been knocked unconscious before being able to patch it up. At least the NSA doctor was her friend too, which made a lot easier to be checked up at her over-furnished home, with Casey hovering over her because for some reason he hadn't shrugged off the fact that she had taken a bullet for him even though it was a completely normal thing in her opinion. Less normal was the 'ah yes, I know why we are here' attitude from her friend, as if she wanted to stay home for any special reason beside not wanting to alert the Awesomes of it.
In fact, she had asked Casey to stay - there are no secrets with him - so he'd also relax.
"Don't worry, you and the baby are perfectly fine, but I'd suggest taking it very easy for the next few weeks and more tests-" the doctor had started talking in a reassuring tone, but Emma hadn't had the chance to focus on anything except the confusing first sentence.
"The what? I'm not pregnant," she replied with an incredulous smile, "I'm on the pill."
"... Did you forget to take-"
"No, the opposite, I didn't even stop at the end of the box, just started the next one because I'm trying to fight bad headaches. The gynecologist suggested it, that should be extra protection, right? Must be a false positive... Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I did extra tests when I realized it was positive. To check on..." she paused seeing Emma's expression, "You are nine weeks pregnant."
"But I haven't been sick!"
"Well, every woman is different..."
Emma stared at her, not daring to even glance in Casey's direction. "... Yeah, I'm gonna need a minute... or... several... hours..."
"Of course." The doctor said a few more parting words, which Emma didn't actually hear, just trying to put things together. And a plan, of course, and a plan B and C.
"See," she told Casey once they were alone, chocked up, "I told you we shouldn't worry about the bullet."
"It can only be yours, by the way, but I'm sure you got that from the timeline. If you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go have a panic attack in the bathroom, but I’ll be right back."
