Friends Reunion || Jarel + Emma
Waking up in the comfortable temperature of that room was always soothing and for sure better than the high temperatures my house had, being heated by the morning sun. So, here, I just calmly stand up and walk myself to the bathroom. That's until I realize I'm late and just rush everything up. Every. Freaking. Morning. At, of course, this one wasn't different. I worried myself down the hall to check my group for the day. Emma and some other people I don't know yet.
As I start to walk to the elevator I see the doors opening and Emma getting inside of that annoying metal box. "Wait!" I shout, running to catch her. My arm stops the doors from closing and I go stand on her side, breathing heavily for a second. "Good morning," I greet, leaning against the elevator wall and smiling down at her. "We're on the same group today."
Chit Chat || Jarel + Emma
After my tiring day in training, I'm happy to get back to the district 9 suite. When I get there the suite is empty, so I sit down on the couch and close my eyes, letting memories flood my mind. Memories of this perfect day that could just keep on forever.
I'm recalling this good thoughts when I hear the still strange sound of the elevator. "Emma," I greet, opening my eyes again. "Had a good day?"
Manicure and depilation or how to be pampered before the worst || Prep
When I woke up that morning I barely had the time for breakfast. As soon as I dropped my fork, our escort took me in a room that was surprisingly far from our suite, but still in the hotel. When we got there, she opened the door to a room sparkling white and clean and told me to sit there and wait for my prep team to get there. The wait was not really long as two minutes later, two girls completely identical entered at the room at the same time, looking at me with their big blue eyes, looking completely astonished. “Oh my good Eli! You HAVE to see her! She’s probably the best looking tribute we had in yiiiiirrrrrs!” they exclaimed at the same time. I then guessed they were yelling to my head stylist that I could ear walking in the corridor as the two girls where touching my hear, taking measures and holding tons of different pallets of colours, probably trying to figure out what would best fit with my hair and tone.
Then, I saw him. A tall brown haired man that I was surprised to see was not looking as weird as I would expect my stylist to look like, thanks to the weird look the twins had. Of course, there was a little abuse on the colours according to my taste, but all this pale blue looked good on him. When he saw me, a big smile lit his face and he opened his arms really wide. “Hello little darling ! I’m Archibald. I have to say that I agree with Sinead and Ayesha, you’re absolutely cute! We won’t have a lot of repairing to do with you, lucky you !” and without further ado, the one that was pointed by Archibald to be Ayesha took me by the shoulders and brought me in a room right next to this one and did not even explained what she was doing before I found myself suffering from the waxing of every little inch of hairs that was left on my body. They (her and her sister) than threw me in a huge bath where I was coated in different and way to much produces from head to toe. At least they smelled good, put there were too numerous.
After bath, I was manicured and finally comb, not huge haircut was necessary as they wanted to keep the natural curled look of my hair, so they proceed in curling them good. In the end, I looked like a “shiniest, cleanest and softest” version of myself, which, I have to admit, I wasn’t mad of at all. Finally a third girl and my head stylist arrived. The girl was presented to me as Elinor, my makeup artist and my stylist gave me new clothes to put on as my pajama wasn’t really parade material.
The dress was sumptuous. Seeing it totally tood my breath away. The gold of the dress and the roses really gave a good idea of the very best of district 9. With enthusiasm I put on my dress, looking at my stylist after he finishes placing it on me, looking satisfied of his work. “This is perrrfect sweethearrtth! He then abruptly turn in Elinor’s direction “ You can do her makeup and after that, I’ll join Kory for a pre parade meeting! Ohh this is so exiting!!”
What A "Precious" Place! || Jarel + Emma
I was so tired last night, I think I fell in bed without even acknowledging my surroundings. Maybe that's the reason why a wave of surprise falls on me the moment I open my eyes. The room is gigantic and full with that strange tech, capitolesque vibe. At the same time, it's simplistic. Lots of greens and whites. A lot of concrete also. It makes me miss District 9 even more.
Getting up is almost painful and I wish to stay in that bed for the rest of my life. But I get on my feet and walk towards a white - what a change! - door. Opening it, I find nothing less than the most luxurious bathroom ever and can't help to think about how my sample of a mom would love it. I want to hit my head against the wall for thinking about her, so, instead, focus on my sisters. But then that makes the fact that they are away even harder to handle, so I just get myself into the shower cabin and concentrate on how the water condenses on the glass doors.
Shower taken, I dress the most comfortable and simple pieces of clothing I can find. A white tank top and a pair of green shorts. It takes me a couple of seconds to find the way back to the living room. Dasia and Adriana were already sitting on a table with more food than what I would eat a week. "The people here sure take care of themselves, don't they?" I intend to greet, sitting down and watching Emma appearing at the end of the hall.
I’d love train travel if it wasn’t for me going to my death. || Train ride
I probably felt asleep after my parents left, because I can’t remember what I did between their departure and the moment a peacekeeper knocked on the door, telling me to get out and follow them, which I did calmly. I did not saw Jarel anywhere, which made me believe we would be taken to the train station separately. The ride to the train station was short and I did not recognize any of the faces that were looking at our vehicle. My family was probably already home, trying to comfort each other.
As I stepped on the train, that tall lady I saw earlier on stage came to great me. Evidently, I did not really felt like talking to the lady who had picked my name out of the thousands there were in the box. I decided to smile to her cordially, but not to talk to her for now. For what I picked of our “conversation” her name was Adriana Haidee and she was “soooooo pleased to me meeeee!”. Already, that annoyed me. She then added that we would meet our mentor later as they wanted me and Jarel to calm down a little bit and she indicated me where our room were. Without saying thank you, I entered my room, told her to tell Jarel where I was and closed the door on her face. I knew it was not her false if I was there, but I wanted to see Jarel, my parents, my friends, anyone exept all of those capitol idiots.
My room, I had to admit it, was sumptuous though. Noble woods where used for the bed and the furniture and my bed's sheets were made of satin. I walked for a minute or two in my bedroom, without doping myself on my bed, waiting for Jarel to be there.
The odds were not in my favor || Reaping
Reaping day had always been a big source of anxiety and stress for me. Not especially because I was scared to be taken, my chances were quite low thanks to the fact that my parents were rich, but because the oldest I was getting, the highest were the chances for my friends, who were not all that rich, to be taken and sincerely, seeing my friends walk to their death would, I knew it, break my heart. Last night was tough, getting to finally sleep was terribly difficult and I was surprised when I woke up that morning not to look incredibly tired and grey. As I chose and put on the dress I was going to wear that day, being carefully cautious to be as pretty as I could be, I noticed that the house was strangely silent. I knew my brothers and sisters were all supposed to be home this morning; it was kind of a traditional mental support for those of us to be reapped… which was only me this year, but nobody was in the mood for laughing or talking.
After taking care of my hair and putting on my heels, I went downstairs, ready to eat my “breakfast” although I really was not in the mood for eating. I weakly smiled to my mom, thanking her after she served my waffles and raspberries, our traditional reaping breakfast, only eating to make her happy. “ How are you feeling sweetie?” She asked me, rubbing my shoulders as she always did when she knew I was nervous. –“ Well… let’s say it could be better.” I answered once I swallowed my bite. As my dad entered the room, tying is tie, he looked at both of us and added in a confident way “Don’t worry Emm’ you’re not going to be taken. Lots of other children have their name in that box and none of your brothers and sisters were taken. You’ll be ok.” I nodded, smiling again to my dad, faking that he reassured me with is words. It was not worth it to explain him that this was not my fear.
We all finished eating in silence. Even Xavier could not make a joke on reaping day and it’s with that same resigned silence that we walked the few hundreds of meters that separated our house from the city hall. As I got in the crowd, holding Anton’s hand like I did for all my reaping experiences, we waited for everyone to be there and the reaping to start, casually speaking with everyone around us. I guess we were all trying to forget what was in inevitable.
The crowd suddenly turned silent as a really beautiful woman steps on stage, elegantly dress. She than proceeds to explain to us what the games are. Once this is done, she walks in direction of the girl’s names and really joyfully declares “Ladies first!” before putting her hands in the bowl and taking a name out. As she unfolded the paper, I took a deep breath, looking at my brother, not bothering to put a smile on my face. “ Emma Forsberg!”.
The call falls on me like a ton of bricks. I look confusedly at my brother who gently pushes me out of the line after giving me a hug. I had been called? With my name only 17 times in the box, I had to be the one who’s name was picked? As I walked to the stage, walking with my head of high and my face probably white as a ghost, I decide not to cry. I was not going to cry in front of all of those people who had faith in me and in front of all Panem who was watching me. I was not going to give to the Capitol to see a breakdown today.
As I step on stage, I lost all sense of reality. I could her a women scream, probably my mother, but everything seemed really far. I stood there, waiting for my district partner to be called, trying to keep a face as peaceful as it could be, though I felt like exploding in anger and fear.
Working for the man || Jarel + Emma
I wake up in the morning with Agnes jumping on my bed and the sun making my eyes burn. "Jarel wake up!" She exclaims louder than what my ears can take. Closing my eyes, I sit up and stretch my arms. Agnes giggles, running out of the room. I just roll my eyes playfully and pull myself out of bed. Quickly, I get on a shirt and a pair of jeans, ready for work.
When I get to the kitchen-slash-dinning-slash-living room, mom is already in front of the dusty mirror putting on her makeup - which she bought with our saving last months, if that even matters. Savannah and Nellie are already waiting for me at the door. "Paz, take care of Agnes while we're gone," I say turning to my mother and speaking in an emotionless tone. Then, I put each of my sisters under my arms and walk out the door, but not without giving the two years old blonde a kiss on the forehead.
After taking Savannah too school and letting Nellie to do her job - I hate the fact that my little sister needs to work, but what can one do? - I walk to the section of field I'm supposed to work in. Greeting some of the popular guys and trying my best to ignore the others, I finally get there and see Emma already doing her work, as usual. "Emma," I say with a smile, placing my arm over her slim shoulders. "Everything okay?"
