When the man started to respond, Emma felt like maybe talking to him was the wrong thing to do, his handsome features were shadowee as he looked a tad nervous if she read him correctly, maybe he didn't want to engage in a conversation and for a second she went back to hesitating her presence here one more time; then a voice in her head reminded her to calm down. If the man didn't want to talk, that was fine, she'd find the people she already knew and stick to chat with them; there would always be a next for expanding her social network. Then, when the man kept talking, it occurred to her she might not be the only one trying something in here.
His compliment, at least she decided to take it that way, made Emma chuckle and she gave a court nod. "Thank you. I'm usually more a cardigan lady but since it's my first work event I thought I had to make a good impression." She overshared, turning her body slightly so she could face him some more instead of looking at him from the side. "You look very fancy as well." The woman returned the compliment. "Are you part of the faculty or..." she stopped mid-sentence waiting for the man to finish it.
