Three days had passed since Vanessa's wedding was called off and Luke was still aghast that her fiancé left like that; he'd be assisting as a friend rather than Vanessa's bodyguard, over the years, endless trips and infinite hours of chatting while travelling, shared silence when it was necessary, they've bonded in a way Luke had only known during his time in the army. She was special, a true friend, and he wanted to go after the shitbag excuse of a fiancé and make him regret humiliating Vanessa like this. He never liked the man, he had a sixth sence for that stuff, so besides being polite to him and clarify his friend that it was nothing personal the way he treated her fiancé, Luke didn't say much; Vanessa loved him and he respected that. For the time being, Luke figure he could be a good friend; texting or calling was discarded, not sure if she was picking her phone so the man simply drove to her place, that way he'd be able to check with his own eyes how she was doing, texts could be deceiving after all, and in case she didn't want to talk at all Luke picked up an order of her favorite food to leave for her in case she needed that kind of comfort instead of a person.
As her security, he had the keys to her place but at his arrival he just knocked the door. "Hey, Vi? It's me." Luke announced when he thought he heard her on the other side. "I won't stay for long if you don't want to, just wanted to know how you're holding up. Brought you some food, just in case. I can leave the bags on the floor if you don't want to open the door."
