Port Eynon Shadow, Emma Cownie
I was captivated by the blue shadow on this white house as you come into the village of Port Eynon in the Gower Peninsula, Wales, so had to paint it. This is a "rural minimal" painting, similar to my urban minimal series, but in more rural locations, attempting to capture the slower, more tranquil feel of rural life.

Wild Oxeye Daisies, Emma Cownie
A "refractionist" interpretation of the distant sunlight spilling, bleaching, corroding through a growth of wild oxeye daisies, which were growing by the side of the road near Ilston Chapel in Gower peninsula. The near oxeye daises dance in celebration of the sunlight and the far grasp at the sunlight sky. It is an image in formation, an expressive impression. Nothing is crystalline, just blobs of iridescent colour generated into being, out of the cool dark blue to the brillant white, by the summer light.

A Certain Something, Emma Cownie
A hot summer day on Oxford Street Swansea finds this old dude, sharply dressed for the summer heat. The title again has two meanings - the man has bought a certain something for a precious loved one or he has a certain something as in presence or charisma, something not easily defined. This is a signature type of painting for me - painting people walking around in their everyday lives. Painting moods, anticipations and atmospheres. Creating presence and pathos.

Early Morning, Three Cliffs, Emma Cownie
I have been dragging myself out of bed at 5am to catch the morning light on Three Cliffs Bay, on the Gower peninsula, wales (UK). I love the movement of the river as it snakes into the sea. Opposite is Oxwich Head.
