Mary had a crush on one of the boys in Hufflepuff in her fifth year. He distracted her in class, she wouldn’t be able to talk when he was around, and she would wake up earlier to put forth somewhat of an effort into her appearance. All of those sacrifices were fine - but when she found herself offering him her lemon cake, she knew it was not worth that and detached herself immediately.

Mary can not sing worth a lick. If she’s drunk enough she will do karaoke with her friends, but her solo is not something anyone wants to hear. Just ask Marlene - she’s had to hear her in the shower far too many times.

If there is a campfire, Mary is there - and she will be eating enough s’mores to make herself sick.

Probity Probe. Anything that might help reveal a person’s secrets is a necessity for Severus, as he thinks everyone is untrustworthy until proven otherwise. He keeps his by his front door, that way he will know instantly if anyone trying to enter his home is concealing something.

Lemongrass. It is rather useful in potion making, (and food and drink, as far as he can tell) and makes for a light, fresh aroma.

Knee-Reversing Hex. Mostly harmless as it is, Severus enjoys casting it in a duel mostly because it causes confusion and makes him laugh.

Severus rolls his own cigarettes. He used to smoke muggle ones, when he was younger, but rolling magical ones has always been more satisfying, and his taste better. The act of smoking calms him when he gets too deep within his own head. 

He has always enjoyed art, both magical and muggle alike. His favorite artist is actually Leonardo Da Vinci, but his favorite painting is Monet’s Poplars. He is impressed by the ability the man had to capture movement and emotion without being able to bring his paintings to life.

Instead of interviewing for his position, Severus asked if he could demonstrate his skills. He has never been a people person, and he knew that if he were to simply try to sell himself and his talent through words, it wouldn’t be enough. So he walked in and brewed the most technically difficult potion he knew how, and was offered the position almost immediately upon completion.
